help me diagnose this problem...vcr related...
ok here goes:
I have it connected 2 ways.
1st is from cable box to vcr to tv through coax
2nd A/V cables to reciever
when I have the tv set to the Ant inputs(coax) I have no problem. but when I go thru the reciever my tv blinks a black screen. I have moved cables, tried different cables, diff. inputs on the reciever, and even connected directly into the A/V on the tv.
my SAT is also routed thru the reciever and there is no problem with that. however if I put my vcr on that input(the 1 the SAT uses) it blinks. if I use the A/V inputs on the vcr and feed my SAT into it(pass the signal thru the vcr with the same A/V cables out) the tv will not blink, but as soon as I change the vcr back to the cable it starts.
I even tried a different vcr from another room and it has the same problem.
what am I missing? any help will be greatly appreciated.
thank you.

another question: I have had comcast out and they have changed splitters, connectors, etc. is it possible that my a/v cables aren't good enough to carry the signal now that it has been improved?

Are you mixing SVideo cables with RCA cables? Most products cannot do both and will default to a certain type.
As for your problem I am not sure I understand completely. Are you sending video to the receiver as well as audio? If so, why?

I have both audio and video(composite) going to the reciever from the vcr. it seems to give me a better quality as in comparison to the coax for playback. it also makes it easier for my wife to just change the input on the reciever.

I agree with the switching aspect, however, going through the receiver is most likely compromising your video quality somewhat anyway.
I would try to see if I could get the VCR to work by itself, connected the way you want and go from there. It still sound to me like a switching issue in the receiver. What input/output setting are you using on the VCR? Are you trying to watch only tapes or pass through the Sat signal as well?

I am only trying to watch tapes. I was just experimenting with the SAT being fed into the vcr to see if it had a problem passing a signal thru the same a/v cables.
SAT has no prob. going thru and it doesn't blink at all. the only thing I did was change my vcr to the input and the blinking stopped.
as soon as I changed it back to were it recieves a signal from cable(coax) the blinking starts again.
I'm sorry if I'm not making this sound a little more clear.
thank you for all your help.

woohoo, I fixed the problem. my tv set has an Auto Aspect feature and it was causing the problem. hopefully this fix wasn't a fluke.
again, thanks for all your help.
