They are completely unrelated things that cannot be compared.
THX is a certification process, and DTS is a method of surround sound.
A better question would be asking to compare DTS vs. Dolby Digital. And if you do that, you'll get more wild responses that you can imagine. In short, both are good. Some people claim that DTS is superior, and other people will claim they can't tell the difference.

THX is a specification that if met earns the mark. Both DTS and DD5.1 can meet teh spec. But because of the fee you will only find THX on a reciever with both DTS and DD5.1
DTS has less compression so it is thought to be higher quality then DD5.1 but for most there is very little difference.

THX = Tomlinson Holman EXperiment

Too much Hype for nothing EXtra!
Mostly, it's licensing fees are to fund the retirement program for Skywalker Ranch employees!

Engel,
If your question is that the THX mode on some receivers vs. DTS mode better? The answer is no, THX mode on a receiver is a simulated mode created by the receiver much like NEO 6 or PLII.
DTS or DD 5.1 is an audio soundtrack that is embedded on the disc and not simulated by the receiver.
