Best solution for a LD player with no remote?
I finally upgraded my old laserdisc player with a Yamaha CLD-W901 (the last model they made, back in 1999). I got a great deal on it, but the reason why is because there is no remote control for it. Now, I have a Yamaha receiver, and I managed to program its remote to work on the LD player, but only basic functions work. I need to be able to switch audio tracks and only the actual remote could do that.
I've checked some websites and can buy an original remote for the player, but it will cost $100-125.00. I'm grasping at straws and wondering if getting some kind of fancy programmable universal remote (which I was thinking of getting anyway) will be able to be set up to properly operate my player (without me needing the original remote). Any chance, or will I have to bite the bullet and buy the real thing?

Find somebody with a Yamaha LD player and learn their codes into a learning remote.
Or, find somebody with a universal remote that has codes for a Yamaha LD player and learn their codes into a learning remote.
If you can't find somebody locally, I bet you could find somebody you could ship a learning remote to have it programmed, possibly for a fee. If I had one, I'd do this for you for nothing.
EDIT: No idea what model # you're looking for, but have you seen this site?

Thanks for the response.
The first option is out, because, hell, I don't know very many people around here with a laserdisc player at all.
The third option is a good idea, so if anyone has this player, please let me know. I would be willing to pay a modest fee. And thanks, stevevt, I wish you had the player.
I checked the site you mentioned, and it seems cheaper than the other sites I've checked, but it doesn't appear to have my brand in stock.

Yamaha LD players were clones of Pioneer models, as most brands were. The W901 was a clone of the CLD-D604.
Any Pioneer LD remote should be compatible (but not the DVL LD/DVD combi players, which work on a different frequency).

For shits and giggles, I tried the remote for my Pioneer CLD-V730 on the Yamaha but it didn't work. So, I guess not all Pioneer LD remotes work.

But, if I track down a D604 remote, it should work?

Re: Best solution for a LD player with no remote?
I know this is an ancient thread, but I have this Yamaha player and Pioneer remotes will NOT work with it. Really strange since otherwise this is a 100% Pioneer player other than the name on the outside, but Yamaha went to the trouble of using a different remote code. The one I got was missing the remote also, but I was able to find one through one of those replacement remote sites- these are very hard to find however.
I've heard Marantz players will work with Pioneer remotes, if you happen to run into one of those.

Holy thread bump! Thanks for the info Alan, but that Yamaha player I had is long gone. It ended up having other issues other than just the missing remote, so I didn't keep it. On the other hand, the old Pioneer player I was going to replace it with still runs like a champ!
