8' to close for a 57" WIDESCREEN TV?

I want to get a 57" tv but have some concerns about being too close. I checked this out in the store(just by eyeballing it,not precise measurement) by standing approx. 5 or 6 feet from the set and it looked ok, but could this change when the set is in my room? my room dimensions are about 13.5' by 13.5'.

Depending on the source material and quality of the set, it could be ok.

i would say 8 feet is definitely not too close. that's like 2x the screen width which is actually a bit on the conservative side. for dvd and hdtv viewing it will be more than enough distance...as for cable tv...that's another story but it shouldn't be too bad.

I currently sit 9ft from a 56" 16:9 and the distance seems fine to me...

One of my friends sits like 4ft (narrow room) from his 56" 16:9 and that is just too close IMHO...

Our couch is exactly 8' from our 57" 16:9, and it's perfect.

Place your seat three and a half times the height of your display. This is where callibration technicians take measurements from when tuning a THX cinema set-up.
