How not to market a movie 101: The House of the Dead trailer

Wow - a trailer so bad it colapsed into a black hole of Suck. A singularity of Suck. In fact, it sucked so much, it obliterated the last three good movies I've seen.

If you are brave enough - feast your eyes upon this horror:

I'll never understand why sexy teens go to raves on zombie islands.

To me it looks like what happens when marketing actually makes a movie. Committe filmmaking by the numbers.
Video game + soundtrack tie-in + cute young actors + Matrix effects + some guy who looks like Vin Diesel.
All they left out was a hobbit and a little kid with a magic wand.

The earlier trailer looked better. Though they did keep in the clip of the chick running as she is "bouncing" which is always a good selling point in my book. Now if they made a movie were the entire 2 hours was that, You have a success.

Wow. That was probably the most Schizophrenic thing I have ever seen. Part matrix, part american pie, part titanic, part counte of monte cristo; and all crap.

Yes, yes I haven't seen the movie this is all based on the trailer. I am sure it will be a wonderful film that will touch the hearts of many.

What's sad is that this will probably gross more than ST:Nemesis.

WTF was that?!? It switched from being some stupid action to some movie trying to go the serious horror route with that Arnold Vosloo (playing Imhotep again, more or less) leading the bad guys.
Only good part of the preview was that slo-mo running at the end with that girl's juggies bouncing everywhere.

This trailer is pretty lame, even by the standards of today's typical "teen" horror fare (i.e. Final Destination, I Know What You Did..., Joy Ride, etc). While I'm not a fan of the genre, I admit they usually have much better trailers than this. I saw the Final Destination 2 trailer recently and I thought it was well put together. I don't think this trailer would even attract fans of those movies I mentioned.

Wasn't the video game series about secret agents investigating some crazed scientist's experiments in a spooky old house (hence the name)? After seeing the trailer and reading the synopsis on the website, this film doesn't seem to have anything to do with the video game. Obviously using the name is a good marketing decision, but it should really be called Zombie Rave Island or something like that.

At first I thought this was El-Kabong's attempt at an early April Fool's joke.

But after watching it, i've learned the sad, sad truth.

BUT...there is a bright side. This flick'll probably have the best bouncing of any movie in 2003. [Though, i'm hoping Monica gets some serious bounceage in the Matrix]

Putting the (lack of) merits of the movie aside...

That has to be the worst edited trailer I have ever seen in my life. All of the action and quick cuts are in the first half then -- bam! -- slam on the breaks, slow down, and give some exposition.

Bad as the movie is going to be, the trailer could be improved 150% just by:

* taking the stuff from :47 to 1:20 and moving to the very beginning.
* then have the "teenagers... rave... zombie..." crap.
* lose the 15 second "it was my fault" scene. What the hell is this doing in the trailer?
* Have the explosion, bouncing breast stuff play over the tag line/movie logo at the very end.

The fact that the trailer is so ineptly put together makes me real hopeful for this movie. 2003 can't come fast enough!

I am so confused as to how the hell do they get weapons and ammunition on an island full of zombies?? They went for a rave, and ended up as zombie killers.

Other than that, it looks like a decent date movie.

I hope you all know this seems to be an investor trailer for possible buyers overseas etc. Those trailers are structured quite differently.

Wow!

It really is as bad as you guys said!
Horrible, horrible, horrible. But the bouncing breasts weren't so bad!

As I poked around the site it looked as if they seem to be targeting a theaterical release.....um, I know some crap os released to theaters, but this flick has bad straight to video writtern all over it.

Nothing wrong with DTV movies....but to outbad the latest Dean Cain/Dolph Lundgren movie you have to really suck!

Wow I thought you all were just being over dramatic but you were right, that really does suck. Not just the editing and what not, but the fact that the movie looks like less fun than jamming a glass rod up my urethra and smashing it with a ball ping hammer.

I liked the SEGA banner, and Arnold Vosloo did his accent well.

Is there any reason why that chick is on an (awful) zombie infested island with such a low cut shirt and no bra?

Okay, after looking at the website i would expect a trailer like that. And sadly its become a little less funny. I was under the impression this was for wide release. But looking at the website tells me its just slightly above a public cable access movie.

Any Official movie site with an Ad for used ink carts just doesn't seem legit.

But, Anything with Clint Howard can't be all that bad.
