Bard's Tale Fans...DEVIL WHISKEY Demo Now Available

Devil Whiskey, a new PC RPG in the vein of A Bard's Tale, has just released their demo.

Download it from here. There are versons for Windows and for Linux.

Devil Whiskey is a party-based, turn-based, grid-mapped, 3D role playing and adventure game, based on the interactive play styles of the popular role-playing games of the late 1980’s. It is a completely original title, developed by the minds at Shifting Suns Studios, LLC, and brought to you, the fans of a style of gaming that has since been deemed ‘old’ by the industry, but that we believe can still provide hours of enjoyment.
Enjoy!

would be a cool idea if they spent time making the environment look a little more interesting. the city looks the same as it did in the 80's. i cant imagine what it needs 256 megs of ram for. still, the bard's tale brings back good memories... ill probably wind up buying it.

Hm... this game looks more RPG than Adventure and I remember Bards Tale was more Adventure than RPG.

Um maybe you are thinking of a different Bard's Tale but the one I played was a straight RPG. Large city, make a party, kill monsters for experience and items, level up, solve quests. I don't actually remember much adventure other than leveling up for the 100th time That game was a classic but damn were some of those monsters hard.

Bard's Tale was most definately an RPG. I remember many an hour wasted playing that on my friend's Commodore 64.

sheesh - well I don't remember then. I didn't think there were any character attributes or anything... it was just some dude playing a guitar in front of a fire - and um... I remember collecting money when talking to people. It's been a long time.

Woo hoo! I'll have to check this out. I remember reading about this a long time ago. I thought that they were going to continue the story of Bard's Tale, but ran into copyright problems. Anyhow I mapped out all of the dungeons on grid paper since they were all the same size in Bard's Tale. Does anyone remember the dungeon where there were a lot of teleporters so it would be difficult to find your way?

Hahaha!
I did the same thing too as a kid.
The dungeon you're describing (or was it one of the final castles??) I have on grid paper. It's been such a long time but I still might have the darn thing somewhere underneath inches of dust.
One of the absolute best characters I developed was a monk who would strike in one turn delivering about 100HP of damage, but because it was a 'critical hit', would instantly kill golems and dragons.

Yeah, I remember the dungeon with the teleporters, what a pain in the ass. One of the most useful purchases I ever made was the strategy guide for the game. I found it way easier than using grid paper to make your own maps.

The monks were the toughest characters.

Well, I tried it. I set up my party and set out, only to be immediately attacked and wiped out. Lame. Deleted.

wow. Bard's Tale. Hadn't thought about that game in ages. Grid paper was a must. I loved those games, but I don't have the time or energy to play deep RPGs anymore.

My brother and I did the grid paper. The game was odd though, we could not level up even if we had the correct answer (yeah, we had copied my cousin's floppy copy). When it finally worked, it was out of the blue and we went up to level 15 from the max which was like 3. It was amazing, we had amassed enough exp since we couldn't level to gain 13 more by killing the stupid weak monsters.
