A friend of mine gave Super Mario Bros two thumbs up. That was a pretty bad movie.

I meant through Ebert/Siskel or Ebert/Roeper.

I remember Siskel and Ebert giving Wise Guys two thumbs up. Boy did that movie stink.

Are you kidding? Do you mean the Wise Guys with Danny Devito & Harvey Keitel. I love that movie & think it's a classic.

If they gave The Medalion 2 thumbs up that it's hard not to beat that one. I just took my nephew to see a matinee & it's one of the worste movies I've ever seen. And I own every single Chan movie available on either DVD or VHS. Everything from the fights, to the what I guess is called acting, to the dialogue is just a mess.

The Medallion does not qualify... Roeper hated it!

Ebert 'marginal' -- Roeper 'blatant'

They bicker about this one here:

....
And the great Joe Piscopo. No, I am not kidding. I think it's a horrible, horrible movie.

I'm a big De Palma fan, but Wise Guys was so tediously not funny. He does thrillers much better. IMHO.

I've never seen Wise Guys, but not only did Ebert give it "Thumbs Up," he gave it 3.5 stars!

Matrix Reloaded. not only did they both give it the thumbs up... Roeper said it was the best movie of the year so far. WTF are they thinking?

Off the top of my head, I remember being shocked when Ebert and what's-his-face gave a great review to Romance, a film I recall lacking quite a few things. It's the only time I honestly thought that they had just convinced themselves they liked that awful movie, because it seemed like the smart thing to do. Much the same way Ebert praised Crash (I remember Gene looking at Ebert as if he was retarded over this). Crash was half-way decent, but Ebert seemed to believe he found it particularly glorious.

I think that Stuart Saves His Family got two thumbs up. I never seen it, but most of my friends who have didn't say good things.

It's good, but nothing special in the movie.

Could'nt understand why Gene and Roger gave both thumb up. I thought it was pretty bad after watching it.

Stolen Summer got two thumbs up. So did Hollywood Homicide.

The wolfpack mentality of attacking Speed 2 is quite funny. If the movie had no relation to Speed (and was just called Cruise Control or something), then they movie would not have been looked at as poorly because there would be no expectation/connection to the first movie.

I was going to say "Speed 2" as well but someone beat me to it.

Little off topic here but this still amuses me to this day... I was in a video rental place about 5 or 6 years ago and I heard a woman say to another woman something to this effect -- "Have you seen this movie 'Two Thumbs Up'?" Bwahahaha. It was a Travolta movie - I don't remember which one - and she read that as the title. I think they plastered the "2 thumbs up" on there bigger than the title.

Ebert & Siskel, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and about every major critic in America gave THE ENGLISH PATIENT thumbs up.

In the words of one of Ebert's own books, "I Hated, Hated, Hated This Movie"!
