Why not Arnold Schwarzenegger himself? He did pretty good with that remake of Christmas in Connecticut.

David Fincher, but only if Schwarzenegger declined the offer.

Oliver Stone, only because I was intrigued by what he had hoped to make when he wrote the original draft of "Conan the Barbarian." In the documentary on the DVD, it sounded more like Lord of the Rings with all the mutants and monsters he had written into the script.

Yup, there are 2 reasons Conan is a classic IMO. Arnold & Millius. I don't want another Conan movie if it's not Millius directing it.

John Milius. If he doesn't direct, then I don't want that movie made.

Milius here as well (though Landis would make it interesting - although it would be difficult to incorporate a car crash pile-up in a Conan movie).

Wachowskis- They're gonna be producing anyways and we can have a barbarian rave scene.

Ang Lee- Watching him try to squeeze meaning out of hacking a person apart should be fun.

Pete Jackson seems to like these kinda movies. Gore factor would be way high.

You forgot Basil Ponderous (sp) who wrote the excellent score. As for the director it would have to be in this order 1. Millius or 2 Oliver Stone since he helped write the screenplay.

John Waters. This franchise needs a new perspective.

Indeed, I hope Basil Pouledoris comes back to do the score. The soundtrack to the first film is a golden classic, one of the best scores ever composed.

I would vote against Milius at this point, simply because who knows if he has any directing talent or skill at all. I mean, one movie does not mean he has the chops more than 20 years later. I do like the Oliver Stone idea though.
