Wow... those are amazing numbers for Freddy vs Jason. It looks to make 33-40 mil this weekend. It might open bigger than American Wedding, which is amazing since Jason X only made $13,121,555 total and New Nightmare pulled in $18,090,181. Granted, it'll drop huge after that, but still...
Surprisingly good bow for Kevin Costner. Maybe this will be a wake up call to him and he'll realize quality matters to audiences. Uptown Girls counters the bad reviews with a likely $10 mil+ weekend. SWAT does the typical summer drop. Nice hold for Freaky Friday. Grind looked like crap, which on some weekends might not have mattered, but Freddy & Jason just owned the audience so there wasn't much left.

The FvsJ #'s are very impressive. The # that really surprises me is how many theaters it's opening at.

I am SHOCKED by what F vs J did. I was really hoping Open Range would have the Piratess reaction. Meaning that b/c it is such a change from the blow stuff up big budget special effect nightmares released all year, that people would flock to see it. But so much for hoping something that good could happen.

And sarcasm just isn't funny when it loses its subtlety.

F VS. J's budget was $25 mill
Hopefully new line will continue making more lower budget horror films instead of upping the budgets and therby killing off horror films that didn't return on their investments like most studios did in the 90s.

Grind made $2.6 million and got the #12 spot. THANK GOD people weren't stupid enough to go see this movie. Open Range and Uptown Girls opened well, considering both had about a $20 million budget.
But those numbers for Freddy vs Jason are ridiculous...I expected like $15 million out of that one.

Are there really any duds with the success of the dvd format??? It appears Open Range will be in the black if one of the above posters $20 million budget number is correct. Once Open Range comes to dvd, the studio will experience more gains. I will not be seeing this in the theater but will definitely pick up once released on dvd.
