Awesome film, even with the commercials



anyone know the DVD specks?

Cool movie but the DVD was cancelled a long time ago.

Welcome to the club of those who recognize Duel for the masterpiece it is.

I first rented it about 12 years ago, and was immediately blown away; I still think it's the best Suspense picture ever made. I bought the laserdisc that was released in the mid '90s, so I doubt I'll be picking up the DVD, unless it's very well priced.

Among the numerous classic sequences (and doesn't it have some of the most impressive cinematography ever lensed?), one that stands out is the diner scene, in particular the masterly shot of a man, whom Weaver suspects of being the truck driver, leaving the establishment. Weaver eyes his every move as he crosses the dusty parking lot, casually brushing a hand over the malevolent tanker's front end as he rounds it. Then a throaty engine starts. Was this guy the truck driver who had been terrorizing him? No, a decrepit old pickup emerges from behind the oily beast and drives off. Back to square one for Weaver.

You have finally seen the light.

Proof of Spielberg's tremendous innate talent as a pure visual and temporal storyteller in the film medium. I sometimes wish that would be his focus again, although Catch Me If You Can was certainly a step in the right direction. Duel has the unrelenting intensity that makes a great thriller.

I thought this was the Ridley Scott movie, which I heard was also good

Aah, that would be The Duellists, which is indeed a fine film. Duel has always been my favorite Spielberg. I remember seeing it when it first aired on TV.

Wasn't this just a made-for-TV movie? (I seem to remember it was later rerelased in U.S. theaters about 10 years later once Steven Speilberg became a household name.)

If so, I believe this could be the greatest made-for-TV movie ever!

At first I thought this was Duel starring Andy Lau and Ekin Cheng... I spend too much time in International... Anyway - yeah, Spielberg's Duel is a pretty cool flick

Yes - you are correct.

The DVD SPecial Edition was supposed to be out already but was delayed indefinately, cover art was out and all. I still think it is coming out eventually.
