Why not? If they're doing a war-era Treasures collection then there's no real reason for them not to include it. Stacked up against their other wartime cartoons there's nothing at all offensive about it, out-of-context screen captures aside.

Yes, I've seen it twice. It's called Education For Death and can be downloaded here. It's disturbingly one-sided (as propaganda tends to be) but very cool to watch in retrospect. Also worth checking out is The Spirit Of '43, which is about the importance of taxes ("...to sink the Axis!") and stars Donald and (a variation of?) Uncle Scrooge.

BTW, those shots of Donald are from a different short called Der Führer's Face. It's available here, although the quality is rather poor. (Requires the VDO codec.) It actually won the Academy Award for Best Cartoon Short Subject in 1943.

I've never seen any of the war cartoons and i think it would interesting to see these relics from the era.

What the hell? I'm not saying it's too one-sided for propaganda, I'm simply saying it's disturbing because it's so one-sided, which is to be expected for propaganda films. What I mean by this, of course, is that all aspects of the U.S. are portrayed as saintly even though they may appear obviously ghastly to modern viewers (such as the "might" of U.S. armed forces in the "Spirit of '43" short).

Be careful in your suppositions. Disney was not a man apart for not being warm to the jewish people in his time. In fact, most non-jewish americans were antisemitic to some degree. In fact, you could almost say that by doing so much harm to them, Hitler participated in a way to a better appreciation of the Jewish people in America. Still, it hurts me to say so as I can hardly admit that he could have been partly responsible for anything good even without the intention to do so.

And yes, as an American must be, Disney was against the axis and the films his studio produced for the war effort were all anti-nazi and anti-japanese.

By the way, you have to know that these films were commisionned by the US government. They are propaganda films made to sell the idea of War to a public that did not understand exactly what was going on in Europe at this time.

I really hope the War time cartoons will all be present on the new Disney Treasure box set in december as they are an important part of last century's history.

"Variation of" would be correct, as Uncle Scrooge did not make his first appearance (not in a cartoon but in a comic book) until some years after the war.

Dude, that's really disturbing stuff. Disney definitely had a dark side that came through in many of the earlier films. The Disney of today is all about making a utopia with pure cheese.

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think Uncle Scrooge made an official cartoon appearance until "Mickey's Christmas Carol", well over 30 years after his comics introduction.
