I mean the guy used to make great movies. Now he makes craptastic on a stick! Die Hard, Predator, Hunt were classics that created genres!

Thomas Crown was good.

But Basic, Rollerball, 13th Warrior were pretty damn bad.

He's a hit or miss director. He got lucky with some good scripts.

I'm one of the few that actually liked The 13th Warrior I guess...It was a fun movie.

Well, whatever your opinion of his last few films, you have to admit he's in dire need of a critical and/or commercial hit.

I reckon he's got a great eye, brilliant visual style, coax great performances out of even mediocre actors, and can really pace a film well... but has awful taste in scripts, or an awful taste for boatloads of money to do the bad scripts.

I'd like to see what he does with a Bond film. Hey, he and Brosnan have woked together a couple times.

And it's not like he started strong and waned thereafter... he started with a borefest called "Nomads"...

McTiernan peaked with The Hunt For Red October and, excluding The Thomas Crown Affair which was pretty good, hasn't made a decent film since.

I always wonder why people put down Last Action Hero. If you can just ignore the kid, this is one of Arnold's good movies.

Last Action Hero was pretty good. it had the perfect blend of being a decent action movie, while making fun of how stupid action movies are.

I bought Last Action Hero a month ago or so and enjoyed it very much. Very funny

I'm a John Mctiernan fan, and I think Die Hard and Predator are some of the greatest action movies ever made. And even though Rollerball and 13th Warrior were bombs, I gave them a chance.

What happened to John Mctiernan? I guess age. It is impossible to keep on creating high-energy action movies, without expending a lot of your own. Ang Lee was terribly exhausted after Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and we wouldn't even classify that as an action movie, if you want to be technical about it. So I guess, it goes the same for Mctiernan

I wouldn't call films that were released within the last 20 years, classics. He was generally a good director of action films that got lazy after his successes.

I Just chalk him up with the other directors who never made it out of the 80's alive

The 13th Warrior was better than I thought it'd be and I'd forgotten he'd done Thomas Crown Affair, which I thought was a great movie.

op Hollywood movie director John McTiernan has been charged with lying to FBI investigators about his relationship with a private detective charged with illegal wiretapping, officials announced today.

McTiernan directed Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 movie "Predator," which was nominated for an Academy Award. McTiernan is by far the most prominent entertainment figure to be criminally charged in the ongoing investigation into the tactics used by Anthony Pellicano, the private detective employed by many Hollywood figures before he was convicted of possessing an explosive device. He is now awaiting trial on illegal wiretapping charges.

McTiernan, 55, also directed "Die Hard," "The Last Action Hero," "The Hunt for Red October," and "Rollerball." McTiernan's alleged crime occurred on Feb. 13 during an interview with FBI agents, according to the charges filed by federal prosecutors in Los Angeles.

"McTiernan claimed that he had no knowledge of any wiretapping conducted by Anthony Pellicano and had never discussed wiretapping with Anthony Pellicano, when in fact, as defendant McTiernan knew, he had hired and paid Anthony Pellicano to conduct a wiretap," according to the charges.

The document stated that McTiernan "hired and paid" Pellicano to wiretap calls of Charles Roven, another Hollywood producer who worked with McTiernan on "Rollerball."

The document was signed by Assistant U.S. Atty. Daniel A. Saunders, who has prosecuted most of the cases related to the Pellicano investigation.

McTiernan is the 14th person charged in connection with the Pellicano case.

Wait, wait, wait...Predator was nominated for an Academy Award?!

How ironic. Just watching Die Hard on cable right now.
