Thats a month earlier than I thought it was.
So how is this game turning out anyway? I just watched the new movie (the one where it says "Redefined for Nintendo Gamecube") and it looked pretty good, but so far none of the game sites have any impressions of it. The only thing I've seen is the interview with the development team and all they said was that they were tweaking the game based on the feedback/complaints they got from the other versions.

This is a little off topic but....
....even though I've only played the demo versions of Splinter Cell, I've noticed there's no hand to hand combat. If this Sam Fisher guy were really a covert operative, wouldn't it make sense that he'd have some sort of unarmed fighting or martial arts training?
I think that's what made Solid Snake such a bad mamma jamma. He could take a guy down and kill him eight way from sunday before he hit the floor.

It is a month earlier, it was due out in May, but got bumped up a week or two ago.
I was planning on renting this, but I got a chance to play the X-box version for a couple hours last week and I was already sick of it. Just not my cup of tea. Too much trial and error. It feels more like work than play IMO, and I play games soley to have fun and unwind from the real world.

I dunno. I think it'd still kinda defeat the purpose of the game. In those situations it's best to run like hell. It'd be interesting. I don't recall being in a situation where you get surrounded. The guys usually keep their distance and shoot you from afar.
Maybe the next version would incorporate this.

Gamespot gave it a 8.4 for both the Gamecube and PS2 versions. I think they gave the Xbox version an 8.6 if I recall, but even then I don't think they really liked the game as much as other sites. The ps2 and gamecube reviews were cut and paste jobs of each other. Thats why I'm waiting for IGN Cube to unlock their review, or any kind person that can post the score summary?

Here at IGN, we're big fans of Sam Fisher's work. There's hardly a soul here in the offices that hasn't played the Xbox version of the game and immensely enjoyed it. Shoot, I'll openly admit to buying my Xbox for this game and Halo alone. But now that Splinter Cell has shipped for GameCube, my reasons for owning the mighty Microsoft paperweight have just been cut in half.
That's not to say that this GameCube version is superior -- in many ways, it's not. Ubi Soft's Shanghai team definitely cut some technical corners in porting the title to Nintendo's console, and the results are visible, but not necessarily obvious. Splinter Cell on GameCube is still a very pretty game and every bit as fun as it ever was. In fact, thanks to the new gameplay polishing and Game Boy Advance connectivity enhancements, it might even be just a tiny bit more fun for some Nintendo gamers, myself included. Is it less pretty? Sure. But for those who have no other gaming alternatives, you could certainly do a lot worse. The porting business is a tricky one, and we're glad to see that Ubi Soft pulled this project off with enough grace to put us in awe of Mr. Fisher all over again.

Presentation
Sam's story now rivals the best summer blockbuster thanks to new FMV sequences. In-game menus, music, and characters are superb and capture the feel of a tasty Clancy novel.
8.0
Graphics
Very pretty in general, but quite flawed in some instances. Occasionally splotchy textures and awkward lighting leave much room for improvement.
8.0
Sound
Surround sound effects and music will put gamers in the mood to hit the floor and do sit-ups between missions. The character voiceovers are also highly enjoyable.
9.0
Gameplay
Rarely will gamers have this much freedom and control in their titles. The action is paced brilliantly, with an awesome balance of fighting and stealth. Superb.
10.0
Lasting Appeal
Once a mission is played, the true test becomes seeing how well it can be completed a second time. The lack of mission scoring hurts, but the action is addicting.
8.0
OVERALL SCORE (not an average)
9.1

cool thanks
looks pretty good. I'm not sure what they meant by "rarely games offer this much freedom." I was under the impression that this game is very linear, but i suppose it will make sense after I read the whole review
. I'm looking forward to playing this game, i've only played bits and pieces at my friends place.
