Break Out The Bugles And Put On The Shasta - "The Pitts" Are Premiering This Sunday
“Life is a bowl full of cherries, but you can’t have cherries without the Pitts.”
–Bob Pitt
In the coming year, 306 people will be hit by lightning, 511 people will be carjacked and 217 people will be attacked by sharks. But only four people will endure them all, and much more… Meet THE PITTS, the unluckiest family in the world.
THE PITTS is a half-hour comedy that revolves around an average American family dealing with life’s little problems -- except when you’re a Pitt, there’s no such thing as a little problem. Their fearless leader is BOB PITT (Dylan Baker), a good-natured guy who just thinks his family has a little extra bad luck — kind of like the Kennedys, but without the good looks and the millions of dollars. No matter what horrible tragedy strikes them, Bob looks at the bright side and figures that things could always be worse. Even when Satan possesses his son, Bob feels that, “You’ve got to take that 666 and turn it into 999.”
Bob and his perky wife LIZ (Kellie Waymire) work together at the local Mailboxes & More, Plus. Liz loves Bob for his eternally optimistic outlook on life, although she wishes he weren’t quite so trusting. They have a 12-year-old son, PETEY (David Henrie), who thinks the random stuff that happens to them is far cooler than it is creepy. On the flip side, there is their daughter FAITH (Lizzy Caplan), a 15-year-old who is terminally embarrassed by her family’s constant stream of larger-than-life crises. Her goal is to make it through one week without being the headline of the school newspaper.
But no matter what disaster the Pitts face, they always face it together. This is one family whose members know they can count on each other when the chips are down. Or when they are struck by lightning while flying kites at the beach. Or when their station wagon is swallowed by a sinkhole in the driveway. Or when they are abducted by aliens. Or attacked by birds. Or when…
"An average family who copes with an above-average number of catastrophes".
Mike Scully and Julie Thacker-Scully (“The Simpsons”) are creators/executive producers of THE PITTS, which is a 20th Century Fox Television production.
Is there a rule stating that every family show on FOX has to be dysfunctional in some sort of way? Just wondering.
I caught a couple of promos and the girl resembles Mila Kunis from "That 70's Show". I'm going to try to refrain from passing judgment until I actually see it, anyone else checking it out?

I might take a look. With this premise, it's either going to be hilarous or an unmatched pile of rat turds. I don't see any middle ground.

It'll be interesting to see if Mike Scully can make a good sitcom without the clout that The Simpsons had. If you think about it, The Pitts is Scully's Simpsons without the Simpson family.

I'm sorry, I'm sure that Dylan Baker is a nice guy and all...but there's no way I can watch him in a family comedy after seeing Happiness.

This was a mildly entertaining show. It was quirky and different ... I dunno yet if it was funny but it was different. I thought the wife was played by Maya Rudolph but it was a different woman.
Fox seems to now only develop Family sitcoms ... quirky families but family sitcoms nevertheless. Has Fox had a successful relationship or workplace sitcom. Excluding Ally McBeal, I cannot think of any since maybe Herman's Head.
Anyone?

I was looking at Lizzy Caplan's (Mean Girls, "The Pitts", Cloverfield) imdb profile and saw this:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1124053/
All I can say... wtf? And animated? Actually, I could see that working.
Never really watched the show or knew the premise, but it is a bit sad/ironic that Kellie Waymire died shortly after cancellation.

I'm just in awe of the fact that a five-year-old thread has been brought back from the dead.
I actually thought that there was a new show coming on that was using the same name as 'The Pitts'.
I thought the original show was stupid and quirky and I laughed a few times (as I remember from all those years ago).
