Anyone heard the Beth Gibbons solo album?

I haven't heard it but I'm very interested as I've heard only good things about it. Too bad, I can't find a copy in the US yet.

You can import it from Amazon but it's $23.99... I've heard a track or two and to tell the truth, I was not THAT impressed with what I heard. Pretty plain jane IMHO. But, take that for what it's worth, I haven't heard the entire disc.

Any news/rumors on new Portishead material?

I have it. If you're expecting it to be similar to Portishead, you'd be disappointed. Beth Gibbons does some very interesting things with her voice on the CD. While overall I think it is pretty good, it obviously isn't near the calibre of "Dummy" or "Portishead" I'd give it a 6/10 (above average).

The first song off "Out of Season" is a classic, IMO. Really beautiful and mournful.

I have it and enjoy it, but it's definitely not Portishead if that's what you're looking for. It's basically her singing and Rustin Man playing acoustic guitar.

Weird--I had a friend visiting England, and I had him bring me back a copy of this album, which I just got today and was just listening to on the way home an hour ago.

Have only listened to the first three or four tracks. It is different from Portishead, so far--very stripped down, not much in the way of the electronics and what not. Kind of dour. She's no Dummy.

I like it so far, but this is my type of thing. YMMV--my friend listened to it before I did, and it didn't do anything for him at all.
