American Idol - 3.25.03 - Country Pop
Looks like this episode might be one of the more bland. Isn't there already an American Idol type competition for Country singers? I thought I saw that advertised somewhere. The AI producers, like Simon said, are truly morons.

So is Olivia Newton John the special guest judge tonight, or did was she supposed to judge the disco and then she cancelled, hench the change from Disco to Country Rock? I didn't quite catch it all...

Oh crap. I really don't like country. Maybe the "pop" in pop country will be prevail.
I swore I read somewhere that one of the upcoming themes was all Billy Joel songs. Did I dream this?

Is it too late to include a poll in this thread? I enjoyed the threads for the first few weeks and seeing the polls of who everyone voted for. It was much easier than sifting through the comments.

hehe, I was typing it and then Kim C. started to sing. I agree with Simon about Kim, that was impressive.

I think Josh and Carmen were the best tonight. I just don't feel any contestants this year have the same energy and personality of Kelly Clarkson from last year. I'm more rooting for a male to win AI2 particularly Ruben, Clay or Josh.

Simon is the only one whose compliments mean anything.
Here is my run down.
Joshua - Great. If he had gone last, the house would have come down. He could stand to lose a few pounds, though.
Trenyce - First time she looked good to me. Sang well - nearly at a par with her previous performances. Of the big 3 (Ruben, Clay, Trenyce) she did the best.
Kimberly L - Hate her. She did GREAT tonight.
Corey Clarke - Bottom 2. Paula's crush notwithstanding.
Carmen - Super. Best performance by her, by far.
Ricky - Crappy song. He can sing, but not country.
Kimberly C. - Fine. Should have done an upbeat song. Should always do an upbeat song.
Reuben - Pedestrian. Has the judges in his jock.
Julia - Bottom 2. May get saved by Corey.
Clay - Pedestrian. Simon was right on. Sounded just like last week.
Final comment: Everyone should choose a song that is hugely popular. The people who sang songs I did not recognize were largely hurt by this fact.
Did I miss anyone?

I thought this show was the weakest show so far. The theme is Country Rock, yet less than half of them sang anything that even resembled country. None of them sounded particularly good. I guess I'd say Josh did the best, though still nothing stellar.
And I have to ask, what on earth was Ricky Smith singing? That had to be one of the worst songs I ever heard - not necessarily the way he sang it, just that the song itself was horrible. I could forgive that if it was at least a country song, but it sounded more like some R&B (without any semblance of rhythm) song than anything else.

I hate Ricky's "tone" - he can sing just fine, and keep tune - but the uh pitch? or whatever, his voice - just annoys the **** out of me.
