I like the 3 or 4 songs I've heard from it, nice and poppy. Everyone I've talked to says its great and miles beyond his solo debut.

They give it an 8.0 out of 10.
"returns to the uniquely assured, yet unrestrainedly goofy swagger of Wowee Zowee"
My favorite Pavement album......I'm excited.

Gave it a listen.....definitely not as many "catchy" tunes as the first effort. It will definitely take plenty of listens to fully appreciate I'm sure. The bonus disc has about 5 songs that were quite honestly better than the album (in a flowing sense).

I really like the disc a lot...much better than his first album. The Jicks sound more like a band this time than just SM's backing band. It's not as catchy as his debut, but it's better. I love the bonus disc as well (which for some reason is much catchier than the actual album). Favorite song so far is "1% of One."

From: Sonoran Desert; a place where it doesn't matter whether or not one can pronounce Donnacha.
It took me awhile to my post my impressions to my most-anticipated CD of the year because I wanted to give it a chance. After the first few listens, I was disappointed, it didn't immediately hit me like his 1st CD. Now after a 1/2 dozen listens, I am getting it and I am really getting into it. Many of my favorite albums are like that, that they warm up to me, the first few times I have little or no impression if not even a bit of antagonistic and negative feelings. I, too, thought at first the bonus CD was better than the real LP, but now the bonus CD does seem like that, a bonus CD and addendum to the LP.
I just wonder how some of the posters on this board really gauge their reactions to CDs. It seems some of the posters on this board, not naming any names, get a ton of review copies of CDs and listen to a huge amount of CDs, and thus they are probably gauging their reviews/reactions on only 1 or 2 listens because of the sheer volume of material they listen to. How good of a "shake-down" does a CD really get by a reviewer I wonder?

Just like I said, it would take (for me anyway) plenty of listens to hear the intricacies that are inherently in there. Now after a month or so, I totally appreciate it.
