I don't think I've ever met anyone who enjoyed him and his show. I guess he was a decent comic before the show, but the comedy he does on the show is awful. And when it bombs, he still isn't funny (while Norm McDonald bombing was hilarious). He constantly jokes with Kev the guitar guy, but that banter isn't funny. I enjoyed Winton Marcellus a lot more when he dissed Jay than this guy who only knows how to suck up to Jay. He interviews poorly. David Spade was on the show and doing a nice bit about the idiot celebrities protesting the war. Jay Leno was laughing so hard it goofed the whole thing up. Jay's bits are crappy too. Jay-Walking is extremely difficult to watch, the one guy with the big head? Ugh. Bad all over the place. And I could give rats ass about his fancy cars he always brags about. Makes me think he's trying over-compensate.

Now Conan, Dave, Craig Kilborn, Jimmy... they are all better than Jay Leno. They each have a strong part, be it interviewing (Dave, Craig, Conan), doing funny bits (Conan, Dave), or just plain having chaotic shows that are great (Jimmy). Jay sucks at all this stuff. I can't think of one strong point other than his good guests before everyone else (except maybe Dave, but I don't watch Dave too much so I'm not sure about this).

Sorry I have to vent. I think this no-talent ass clown only gets the best ratings because he's on at the best time and gets the best guests.

Oh I'm sure a few of you out there like him, I'd like to hear about that and why.

I also understand that NBC doesn't allow their employees to go on ABC (Kimmel) because Kimmel made fun of Jay? That's what Jimmy said on his show tonight at least. Is that true? Conan makes fun of Jay all the time! What a bunch of crap if it's true.

What do you guys think? Why does Jay do so well?

I'll tell you why, its because tons of "Americans" do what they are told. They think that this corporate sellout is all that is out there. Half of the people who watch him couldn’t see funny if it hit them in the face. Keep eating your Doritos America.

I watch Jay and Dave every morning (thanks to dual tuner DTiVo ).

I honestly can't answer your question why I watch Jay though. He's not very funny and he runs stuff into the ground constantly.

I guess it's more out of habit at this point. Plus, I don't want to miss any Kevin Smith appearances (Roadside Attractions )

I think Jay gets the best guests because he is already in L.A., where a lot of the entertainment industry resides, and because he kisses his guests' asses far and away better than any other night-time host. Jay is the "safe" host.

I was going to say a combination of successful 10pm NBC shows, better guest selection from L.A., and lead-in to Conan, but this is a much better response.

Maybe it's because people actually like him, and just the people who rant on the internet don't. The world of DVD talk forums doesn't nearly represent the real world, despite the fact that we think we should.

All right, I just have to say this and get blasted from all sides -- I like Jay Leno. I think his material is pretty well-written, he improvs well, he's thoroughly professional, and from all accounts he is one of the nicest men in Hollywood.

He was one of the hardest-working comedians in the business, hitting every comedy club and venue for twenty years before getting a late night gig, and his ratings continue to suggest that he has become a comfortable fixture on American television.

Having said all of that, this quote:

Personally, I think that Leno is drab. The punchlines to his jokes are too predictable and he is boring with the guests. However, I do think that his segments after the monologue (e.g. Jaywalking) are better than Letterman's.

A wise man once said that Jaywalking would be much funnier if you didn't get the impression that Jay wouldn't have known the answer either if it wasn't on the card.

I watch Leno a couple of times per week, I enjoy his show.

I agree. Headlines and Jaywalking can sometimes be very funny. But Jay telegraphs his punchlines and then shouts them as if it'll make them funnier. Even worse, he then giggles about it to himself.

And if I have to hear Jay Leno interupt an interview one more time with "See, that's the difference between men and women..." one more time...

I've known fans of Leno both young and old so it's not really an age thing, but they seem to be the people who say "Let's blow this firetrap" when leaving a room and think they're being funny.

jay is more for the masses. people can understand his comedy easier, his sets are colorful, he's a safe interviewer (when everything is already scripted the guest can decide before-hand what they dont want to discuss) and his comedy is tame/safe.

First of all, it was Branford and not Winton as the original band leader. Second I have to agree with most of you that Leno sucks. His jokes are bad, his bits are over played, and his interviewing skills stink. When I do watch him it is because he has a guest on that I would like to see.

'Is This Anything?' is my personal fave.

I love the rarely played "What the hell is it?" with that wonderful theme song.

This is the game where Dave and Paul went into the 'sound proof' booth. The first time, it wasn't so sound proof. The second time, Letterman got 'confused', thinking we couldn't hear him, as he exclaimed to Paul "Did you see the tits on the woman in the front row?".

He's classic.
