Beastie Boys new single.

For those that don't know, the Bboys released a new single onto the net for download.

What are your thoughts on it?

Personally, I thought it stunk, badly. If I wanted to hear a political song I could make my own by putting the CNN ticker to music. Plus, I didn't even find the rhymes or the song in general worthy to be a Beastie song... the boys are getting old. IMO, don't waste your bandwidth.

Haven't heard it yet, but I do agree that the Boys are getting too old. I'm not a big fan of Hello Nasty at all, and only about 1/2 of Ill Communication was any good. Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head are still brilliant albums, but I don't really care to hear anything new by them again...

I agree. They're like GNR. The only good stuff is the old stuff.

I really didn't think it was all that bad, myself. But, was it me, or does Adam Yauch sound like an old, old man now?

I thought the lyrics were kind of cheesy. I still like the Beastie Boys, but they aren't nearly as good as they were in the 80's and 90's.

They're windbags. Nothing after 1994 by them is worth consideration. I also thought Ill Communication was only average.

Wow, thanks for the thread guys. I can't imagine hearing about this anywhere else, the boys dropped off the map. BUT...

Man, that sucks. The beat is good enough, i was digging it until they came in with the lyrics. Just more of the same lecture. It was kind of hard to go down from hello nasty, but i think they've done it.

What ever happened to Brass monkey?

waffles? that's the best they can up with? waffles? yikes. the sentiment is nice (it always has been), but it just sounds kind of forced. i guess i'm just not feelin' it.

I liked it. "George Bush, you're looking like Zoolander" hehe I've always been a big fan of the Beasties though.

The Beasties are very dated now.

I heard this on the radio today and actually liked it. I guess they are just preaching to the choir though becuase I like almost anyone who can see the evil that Bush is doing to this nation.

Maybe so, but to cheapen the message with ridiculous comparisons (Zoolander? Waffles?) it seems like this was just rushed and put together on the spot in the studio - maybe for some much needed publicity from a band that hasn't exactly been 'on the map' lately. Either way, the song isn't very convincing.

I didn't hear any guitars....in fact, their past albums have had more guitar than Hello Nasty (as far as I can tell.)

Not in that song in particular, I am talking in general.
I liked them much better as rappers.
Everyone knows Licence to ill was Classic.
Pauls boutique was Great IMO as well.

I know if they didn't switch back to rock they probably would not
have made it past pauls boutique. I even liked some of the rock songs. I was just wishing for a completely all rap 1986 style album. I know it would never happen, and I know they are to old to do teen lyrics, still I can dream.

wow.. i listened to this a little while ago, and i really couldn't believe my ears...

i liked the music - seemed like something the beasties could usually run with, but i think the lyrics/rapping are terrible.. sounds VERY amateur and weak to me... and the chorus... ugh... the chorus...
