Cypher (Vincenzo Natali's new movie)

I got to see Cypher (aka Company Man) in theaters last week. Its a minor release here in Tokyo Japan, and it seems theaters are only running it 1-2 weeks. Now the distributor was boasting this is the world premiere...and I read a bit on iMDB and it seems US hasnt even picked it up yet.

So anyhow, this is the second movie from Vincenzo Natali, director of Cube, with the story by Brian King. Its sci-fi suspense with a dab of 60s spy movie. Visuals are stylish, a bit of Kubrick(Natali himself admits he is a fan of Kubrick) inspiration here and there. The movie shares similarity with The Matrix, Dark City, The Game to a certain extent -- the main character is tired of everyday life, he does something different, and leads into something bigger...trying to figure out what is really happening around him, who to believe, etc. The actors' performances are all great...I'm no fan of Lucy Liu but she's done a good job here.

I think I found another favorite movie director now...I loved Cube, and Cypher is just as great. I want to watch it again cuz god knows when this will be on DVD....
