What are some movies you can't or must love at dvdtalk?
Just like the subject says What are some movies you can't or must love at dvdtalk? I mean movies you get flamed for liking or not liking.
Must:
Fight Club
Requiem For a Dream
99% of foreign movies
And as I recently discovered The Ring
Can't:
Armageddon
Return of the Jedi
PEARL HARBOR
What else?

Well, there are some people who see red when they see certain titles, but I think there's a fair enough amount of diversity here that you can't ever express your opinion.

I like Armageddon and I am proud of it...
There are plenty of bad foreign films, but most of them do not get released here in the US. However, there are many foreign films that are excellent.
There are so many people that hate Titanic for some odd reason. After all, it is the second film in history to win a total of 11 Academy Awards.

From: Sonoran Desert; a place where it doesn't matter whether or not one can pronounce Donnacha.
The ONLY reason why Amargeddon and The Rock aren't long forgotten and long chastised are the fact that Criterion released these . . . any knowledgeable DVD/movie fan could place an easy 10+ substitutes for each of these movies and find no better/no worse . . .
And yet, these movies are the cornerstone of some DVD talk members' DVD collections.
Yes, satisfying the guilty pleasure that a reputable franchise has solidified their urges of generic cinema.

From where I'm posting:
must's:
Fight Club
T2:Judgement Day
Most anything by Peter Jackson/Terry Giliam/David Lynch/etc.
Memento
musn't's:
Anything Luca$ post ESB
Anything Di$ney
Anything with more than 30% CGI, except if it's LOTR/PJ-related
Anything Michael Bay post-The Rock
Titanic
Anything with Julia Roberts in it
"dump-your-brain-at-the-door-and-enjoy-the-ride-type action movies" (i.e. xXx, Mummy Returns, Fast and the Furious, etc.)

I'll admit I'm a rebel. The only Criterions I own are The Rock and Armageddon and haven't heard of most of the movies Criterion usually releases. Fight Club was interesting but I'm not a big fan.

If you have a disagreement consisting of 10 or more back and forths with another DVDtalker over any movie, you must endeavor to disagree with and insult said members' taste in movies from that point on (even if you both really love or hate the movie being discussed later).

i recently got attacked for not watching (yup not even disliking) a couple of criterion hitchcocks. watch out here, the people are enamorous over their beloved directors. hitchcock, kurosawa, kubrick, many foreign film, most of the criterion catalog,
must hate #1's gotta be godfather 3. i don't remember anyone ever standing up for it.
the bring it on thread will never die. someone (most recently me) will always ressurect it.
this is why i don't watch trailers of movies i don't know whats going to happen. i love speculating a twist, but from the trailer? c'mon. most of them just ruin movies. if i will like something someone here or a friend will let me know.

Be sure to mention how great Lord of the Rings is and how Peter Jackson is cinema's God whenever there is a thread about Star Wars, or George Lucas.
Oh yeah, be sure to call the George Luca$, $teven $pielberg, and Di$ney.

hrm. i like Godfather III better than Godfather II, and its presentation of the parallels between Michael and Vito. I loved seeing the consequences of the acts in parts I and II. It's a great capstone. Flame on.
Anywho, it seems that everyone has to love Hitchcock and Kurosawa, and must not say you don't like one of their films, but that film is "good, but a lesser film" than their other works. C'mon--everyone can make a turkey.
