And the next director to be considered for the new Superman movie is...

I don't have any links yet but:

Bret Ratner may go onto Rush Hour 3 instead of Superman. The Producers want The producers want "...someone who can inject both stylish eye-candy and manipulative emotion to deliver the ultimate post 9/11 flag-waving patriotic superhero movie."

So, apparently Michael Bay may be taking over as Director of Superman.

Man, I wonder what kind of reaction this news'll get around here...

I think just about everyone has, at one point, been considered director for a new Superman movie.

Around Winter 2000 I was rumored to be attacted to this project.

I thought Ratner was a good choice...but Michael Bay?!?! If they stick to the action kind of stuff, then he certainly is capable...but if it's got any emotion in it, he'll drip sacarine all over it....bleh.... uh oh, so does this mean that NICOLAS CAGE is going to be brought back on board???

I'd pick Bay over Ratner any day. The Superman movie demands the sort of scope and cheesiness that only Bay can bring to the table.

Bay was attached a long time ago. Looks like he'll be back at the helm again.

I doubt he is official or even rumored, but when looking for post 9-11 patriotic stuff that will wind up looking more or less insulting than encouraging, you can't go wrong with Bay!

I'm as patrotic as you can get, and I HATE bay.

Though I can't stand his overall filmaking techniques, his MTV style of editing drives me insane.

[Homer Simpson]Sounds interesting[/Homer Simpson]

Bay should stick to what he does best, dumb action flicks that have a sense of humor.

Am I the only one disgusted by this comment? Gee, I sure am glad that the effect of the WTC disaster has sent ripples through our lives and changed so much, so that some lamer studio exec can wrap himself in the flag (in quit possibly the most crass way possible) and cram another junk franchise turd down our throats in the name of patriotism. Where are the sensitive, artistic depictions of the effects of 9/11 (good and bad) on the American psyche? Nowhere! What happened to film art? The studio's idea of a healling post 9/11 film is a soulless franchise monster? WTF?

This movie is going to be unavoidably bad.

No one who even mildly cares about the Man of Steel should get their hopes up for even a second. Not with the current management of those Burbank studios.

No, no, no, no, no, clemente, you misunderstand.

There isn't a chance in hell that the movie will bomb.

It'll just suck, that's all.

They already made a good Superman movie back in 1978. Unfortunately there's still money to be made so we get to see some hack like Ratner or Bay take their spin at it....

Superman I and Superman II were great movies. You could say the II is better than I. It will be very hard to capture the essence of those two films. All they care about is $$$. The first two movies could use some updating for today. They should wait for Tom Welling to reach age 30 and play Superman. He's 24 all they have to do is wait six years. Who would be cast for Lois Lane? Sabrina Lloyd would be good, but I don't know if she has the Lois Lane look. I don't have a clue for a director.

here is my Michael Bay theory.

Michael Bay was actually a very good director, till Don Simpson died. Which is why Bad Boys was great, and half of the Rock was great. Simpson provided the heart and soul of the Bruckheimer/Simpson team, and Bruckheimer provided tha bang!

Now with Michael Bay directing again, and Joel Silver producing, Bay has the power to flex his muscle again, under a new producer! And one of the best ones there is! As we all know, Silver produced the Matrix, which means Bay's Superman, will at least be as good as the Matrix. And though I personally didn't really like the Matrix story, the SFX we're amazing. So I expect at least the same from this Superman movie.

Poor Jerry Bruckheimer, he has lost his star director protege. And producing movies like Bad Company and Kangaroo Jack... won't exactly put you back in the majors. I wonder, if he even knows what's wrong.

what say they make superman like they did twilight zone the movie? lets have four directors make 1/4 the movie.

or... it could be like a telephone movie. tim burton directs a scene, then the next scene is directed by Ratner, and all in a giant cycle. see where the movie ends up....

meh. dammit tim. come back and direct.

I honestly doubt the Matrix was as good as it was because of Joel Silver, he did produce Thirteen Ghosts and Ghost Ship.

yeah, i was thinking the same thing, too. but look at his track record, it's like a who's who of list of action movies of the last two decades.

it's seems he just went on a horror trip recently, though quite unsuccessful, though, he does have an affinity to horror with Creepshow. Maybe a bit too TV-ish, which is probably why the movies failed.

You highlighted Assassins as a good film? Seems to me that while Silver's produced his share of great action flicks, he's also produced tons of crap. It's a rather hit and miss scenario.
