What's up with Martin Lawrence and cop movies?

Has anyone besides me noticed how many movies Martin Lawrence has been in where him and another actor co-star as cops (or at least pretend to be cops)? I did a quick imdb search after seeing a trailer for National Security and this is what I've come up with:
Blue Streak
Blue Streak 2
Bad Boys
Bad Boys 2
National Security
Big Momma's House
Nothing to Lose

That's seven movies since 95 when Bad Boys came out.

Mmmm . . . I dunno. But I'll hazard a guess.

Could it be his limited range as an actor?

Actually...

with the exception of Bad Boys I [& hopefully II], you could change the "o" in "cop" to an "a" and add an "r" in front of it, then you'd be on to something...

Aha, I got you. Admittedly that took me awhile but I concur.

He's been washed up for a while now.

It's amazing that Big Mama's House was a hit.
Especially since Eddie Murphy did the drag thing 10 times better and with a half-dozen characters.

Blue Streak 2?? That's one you can wipe off your list as it doesn't exist.

And he wasn't a cop in Nothing to Lose, so that's another one you can scratch off your list.

I don't remember him or Tim Robbins as cops (or pretending to be cops) in "Nothing to lose".

The bigger question is why is this man allowed to make movies at all. Every dumb situation, every dumb white joke. Do black comedians just think that saying white is funny? I can see it now Martin Lawrence as an:
Astronaut-"Why are all the space suits white?"
Baseball Player: "Why is this team called the BLACK sox?"
........the list could go on forever.

Blue Streak 2 was listed on imdb, so I assumed it was/ about to be in production.
And you're right about Nothing to Lose. Dunno what I was thinking when I included that. Even so, that still seems like a lot of cop movies for one actor in that amount of time.

Good lord this man is highly obnoxious. The commercial for his new movies makes me want to kick him in the nuts.

Ya, but couldn't you say the same thing about De Niro and gangster movies. Or Stallone and action movies. Or Carey and comedies.

Lawrence is a comedian. Most comedies aren't particularily funny nor original. So, sticking a guy like Lawrence who plays the recluse/anti-establishment type in a conformist role is an easy laugh.

Haha, he's swearing and acting so crazy, yet he's supposed to be a cop. Yay, let's see that again...

Tim Robbins nor Martin Lawerence was cops in 'Nothing to Lose'. Tim Robbins worked for some commercial firm, Martin Lawerence was a petty thief / who was suppose to be highly intelligent with electronics and security.

<- Loved that movie. Tim Robbins is the man.

Newsflash: Martin Lawrence is NOT, nor has ever been, funny. This latest, ahem, effort is appallingly inane.

Not intending on making this a black/white issue but Martin's acting skills are not as bad as you all are tryna portray. Admitedly on the big screen, he has been in quite a few bombs, I even think Bad Boys is overated whereas Big Momas House was underated. He totally blew his chance to be a big star after blowing his money money movie "Black Knight" (he made 20 mil in it). But with all that being said he has at his disposal in my oppinion the funniest sitcom ever "Martin" which could have experienced years of added longevity had it not been for personal issues. Also, his early standups were purely hilarious. What I've notice from Black viewers and White viewers of Martin is that to many that are white they see him as a "loud, annoying, and obnocious black comedian" and to black viewers they see him as "a crazily hilarious comedian, one of the best since Murphy's hey day". I stand somewhere in the middle of those oppinions but overall will have to say that he STILL is one of the funniest men alive who have been stuck with some horrible scripts. STOP THE MARTIN BASHING .

Nothing to Lose is the only good film I've seen Martin Lawrence in.

I just came from watching 25th Hour, and I was saying the same thing about Lawrence to the guy taking the tickets. All of Martin's movies are about cops. The guy was telling me Martin's new cop movie would be in the theatre tomorrow (Friday), but the employees were allowed to watch the movie tonight.

I did enjoy Bad Boys, Big Momma's House and Blue Streak. I can't wait for BBII and now that I see there's going to be a Blue Streak 2...can't wait for that either.

I'll agree that Martin Lawrence has made some bad movies. However, ADAM SANDLER is 10 times plus worst than Martin Lawrence. Matter of fact, I don't think Adam Sandler would be funny if Richard Pryor and George Carlin wrote his jokes.

You should amend this: He is either a cop, or a criminal.

Petty thief in Nothing To Lose
Burglar in What's The Worst That Could Happen? (... a sequel?)
One-time bootlegger in Life
He was BOTH in Blue Streak

And he criminally defrauded the moviegoing public with Runteldat, Black Knight, Thin Line Between Love & Hate etc...

He doesn't always play cops. You guys seem to forget the one where he's a time traveling football player who goes back in time and...
