Looking for Bizzare movie recomendations...

Title says most of it I guess. Films I would fit into this category that I really enjoyed include:

The Element of Crime
eXistenZ
Molholland Drive
Requiem for a Dream
The Abominable Dr. Phibes
Fight Club

Honerable mention goes to Eraserhead, but I can't get it on DVD yet.

*Open Your Eyes (Abre Los Ojos)
*Waking Life
Clean, Shaven
Begotten
Caligula (Unrated)
Dead Ringers
Suspiria
Fantastic Planet
Alice
Audition
*Cube

* are closest to what you seek.

Sorry about the repost... I searched for "bizzare" and didn't come up with it.

Thanks for the suggestions though

If you liked Mulholland Drive, you must see Lost Highway if you haven't yet.

Might try searching for "bizarre."

Although it's not as stylish as The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971), it's sequel, Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972), is fun as well.

As is the similarly themed Theatre of Blood (1973).

Edit:

Not on DVD: Tod Browning's Freaks (1932) and The Unknown (1927)

"Gummo" is pretty bizarre. It'll introduce you to "Chair Wrestling". The sport sweeping the nation!

"Little Otik" is coming shortly on DVD, it looks really bizarre. Also in the same vein: "The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb". The animation of the Brothers Quay - very nightmarish (similiar to Tool videos).

I WILL WALK LIKE A CRAZY HORSE (J'irai Comme un Cheval Fou) and VIVA LA MUERTE (Long live Death) from Cult Epic Home Video look extremely bizarre as well.

"The City of Lost Children"

Maybe this is a given, but of course Brazil needs to be mentioned.

"Liquid Sky"

"The Acid House"

"True Stories"

"Meet the Feebles"

"Marquis" - a French movie that like "Feebles" is done with puppets and prothestics. The scene where one of the characters is sodomised with a lobster has to be seen to be believed.

What is wrong with you people? The correct answer is, of course,

ZARDOZ, which includes wisdom such as:

"The penis is evil. The gun is good."

If you haven't seen it yet, check out Blue Velvet. For one reason or another - despite it's straight forewardness - it just came off as downright strange.

I'm probably the only person that didn't think City of Lost Children was strange at all, it was like watching my childhood fantasy land being played out like a movie, which was amazing.

Cube 2: Hypercube, which is due later this year in the US - was also amptly bizarre - it didn't make much sense in the end (one of the worst endings, ever) but it was a joy to watch. (and while not as good as Cube in terms of movie making know-how, it was definitly way more fun - figuring out what was going on and how.)

It isn't a movie, but the anime series Serial Experiments Lain and Boogiepop Phantom would probably do ya some good if you can get 'em cheap.

...I'm personally fond of "game" movies where you try to figure out what's going on as it progresses... eXistenZ, Mulholland Drive, etc; - the ones that hold a dense atmosphere (generally in the noir and mystery genre.) (24 was kind of like that, in a more mainstream way... I personally prefer the waked out and weird ones.)

This month has been a disturbing cinematic month for me, I have seen these so far.

I Stand Alone
Clean, Shaven
Visitor Q
Piano Teacher

I also agree with the previous posts.

If interested what else I have seen check out my web site, write short reviews on all of the films I see.

If cannibalism is your bag, then you can't go wrong with Eating Raoul, a dark cannibal comedy from the 80's that, unfortunately, is not yet on DVD, but can be found at a good VHS rental store.
