Kinji Fukasaku : July1930 - Jan 2003

Another one gone..

from http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...m/film_tora_dc

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - "Tora Tora Tora" helmer Kinji Fukasaku died of cancer over the weekend in Tokyo. He was 72.

Fukasaku made his name in Japan with his Yakuza movie series "War Without a Code" for the Toei Studio, helping to establish Toei as a leader in postwar Japanese cinema.

He gained international recognition with the 1970 release of war epic "Tora Tora Tora," about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which he co-directed after Akira Kurosawa abandoned the project.

His last project was 2002's controversial "Battle Royale," featuring brutal killings among high school students, which became a surprise hit at the Japanese box office.
...and as disrespectful as it sounds, I'm still thinking about Battle Royale 2 and what could have been (or was it already shot?)
