Wow. I didn't expect that to overtake Lord of the Rings.

Wow, now that's a shocker. The big surprise still has to be Chicago's steady yet growing numbers, looks like this movie might explode once it hits wide release.

Isn't it the *only* date movie out now? New that is. So by default, I guess it would be. But man, are reviews for this film terrible.

And add me to the list of people shocked that it will replace "LOTR:TTT" at no. #1.

I'd say Two Weeks Notice and Maid in Manhatten count as date features, and still in the top ten.

I think The Two Towers is a bit more front-loaded than it's predecessor. Word-of-mouth isn't going to be as extensive because most everyone has seen the first film and either liked it or not, while the rest aren't interested enough to see either.

It's nice to see that Adaptation, while not cracking into the top 10, still has a better per-screen average than Just Married, the potential #1 film this weekend.

Considering the amount of media placement it has been getting, it's not surprising.

I was hoping that TT would hang on one more week to get to 300 million before dropping out of first on the weekend. I would hope the numbers are wrong however they tend to be pretty accurate.

I'd say so too. That's why I asked if "Just Married" was the only NEW date movie out there now. Those other two have been out for several weeks. I'm sure women dragged their poor boyfriends out to see those when they first came out I bet if you peeked in the theatres now showing them, you'd see mostly women.

...and GONY continues to struggle at the boxoffice.

Not sure if heads will roll at Miramax, but you know a few meetings were held because of it.

The trailer alone should be enough to scare away movie goers...You just have to shake your head.....

It's about time somebody put Peter Jack$on to school.

Maybe this means no third LOTR film?

Nah - they'll just ask Jackson to make it a little funnier and more of a date movie...

i wonder why the studio didn't say that in their ads! (they could also have said that it was the best reviewed film of the year!) so many things they could have said!

The girly-girls decided they needed a change of pace, kick those Hobbits to the curb.

Here's my prediction: a more than 50% drop in the gross for Just Married next week, with Catch Me If You Can taking the top spot and TTT behind it performing consistently.

TTT will still outgross FOTR and Episode II easily.

...and Nemesis just barely keeps a toe-hold on the top 20. Has Berman been handed his papers, yet?
