Let Nintendo know we want the Black GBA-sp!!
Seeing that having a bunch of people call Nintendo about the Zelda bonus disk prompted them to do that promotion here, I figured we could try to let them know that we'd like the black GBA-sp over here too!!
The number to call is 1-800-255-3700. Just let them know you would like to have the option to have a black GBA-sp since they are getting one in Japan. Besides, if they have the black one too, they'll have all 3 GBA and GC colors matching.
Post your results here.

Done. The CSR submitted my request using their internal system.
The CSR was unaware of the black model and mentioned that it may take a demand of 100,000+ to get them to offer a new color. I told him that since they are all manufactured overseas and the black model appears to be offered in Japan, where's the difficulty in distributing the black model for the USA.
Perhaps Japan has more adult gamers than the US and therefore has a higher demand for a black GBA-SP. This goes back to the cultural perception of "gaming is for kids" in the US. Where as in Japan it is viewed as a form of entertainment for everyone.
I told the CSR I currently have a black GC as well as all black A/V equipment in my dedicated HT and would prefer a matching GBA-SP. Not offering it in black will effect my decision to purchase.
The CSR also mentioned this email address which might be less effective means of expressing our interest in a Black GBA-SP:

Yeah, will be better to call. I'm going to call after work today to request the black GBA and also to let them know of my Metroid Prime issue.
If anybody else hangs out on other gaming sites, perhaps they can start a thread like this as well. Almost all gaming sites are blocked from my work so I can't do it.
I guess if all else fails, it'll eventually be a Toys R Us exclusive or Limited Edition anyway. Stupid, but more likely. And the silver one doesn't look THAT bad.

My thing is that the color is available, just not in my country. It's not like I'm asking for turquise or something.
besides I'm anal and have this everything must match thing
I even bought the sega sports pack so I could have the black dreamcast

I personally like everything to match if possible.

Purple is the color we are not getting in the US!
I thought the two GBA SP colors being released in the US were black and silver. I thought the purple was what was missing in the US!
from:
http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories...908185,00.html
"As for US specifics, the Game Boy Advance SP is scheduled to ship in North America on March 23 for a price of $99.95. While three colors have been announced for the GBA SP's launch in Japan and Europe, only two colors, platinum and cobalt, will be available in the US."
Cobalt is black, right? I think...
What does SP mean anyway?

Cobalt is the indigo one. Its more of a blue than a purple.
SP means nothing, but it may have meant special project at one time in the development of the new Game Boy.

Re: Purple is the color we are not getting in the US!
*puts on nerd glasses*
Cobalt is actually being used incorrectly. For one, it's not an adjective. It's a noun and means : "a hard ferromagnetic silver-white bivalent or trivalent metallic element; a trace element in plant and animal nutrition."
They might have meant to say Cobalt Blue, but that wouldn't apply to the color shown as it means : "A blue to green pigment consisting of a variable mixture of cobalt oxide and alumina" -or- "a moderate to deep vivid blue or greenish blue."
They should just be consistent and call it Indigo as it is obviously the same color plastic used for their Indigo GC and GBA
