Catch-22

what are your thoughts on the black comedy "Catch-22"?

It's strange for me seeing a young Christopher Walken and Martin Sheen.

This thing has a very talented cast with Alan Arkin.

Very twisted, strange and deliriously funny movie. Finally got around to watching it last fall and I fell in love with it immediately. Definitely great cast and great acting all around.

Wonderful film. After reading the book, I realized how difficult this movie must have been to make. It is not perfect, but still very good. Great cast too...

I happened to see it again last Fall for the first time in years, just as I was near the end of the book. It's about as good an interpretation as anyone was ever likely to do.

(Nobody understands why I start giggling whenever "feather in my/our cap" or "black eye for me/us" is used in conversation... )

I'm not familiar with the source material, but I saw this film a few months ago and thought it was merely good. I can't help comparing it to M*A*S*H, and to me the humor in Catch-22 was nowhere near as pointed as in Altman's film. Also, the very high quality of the production values (those explosions!) detracted from the humor - one can't help but think that those sets were actually built and then blown up, and as a result, much of the anarchic, free-flowing spirit that M*A*S*H had in such vast quantities seemed to be lacking in Catch-22.

Great book, mediocre movie. Not as disastrous as Bonfire of the Vanities, but close.
