All you need is a mouse and a keyboard.

Joystick wouldn't work well for this kind of game. Go mouse and keyboard. If you still aren't sure you can download the demo and see for yourself.

A high-speed internet connection also helps for online play, but you can get by with a 56k.

No, games like Age of Mythology rely heavily on using the mouse. I don't think there's even an option to use a gamepad/joystick.

For sports and driving games maybe but who plays them on a PC??? Maybe GTA 3 or Mafia would benefit from a gamepad......

Plenty of great flight games on the PC that benefit from a joystick. With the right controller and the right game, a racing title on the PC can blow away the console competition, with higher-resolution graphics and textures, faster processing speeds, and the ability to use multiple monitors.

Friend of mine plays Tony Hawk and football titles on his PC using a gamepad. Again, you get higher resolutions that make the games look a lot better.

Personally, I prefer the console for my driving and sports games, but they certainly work -- and work well -- on the PC when you've got the right controller.
