The year has officially ended and the horror outlook in 2003 looks to be an interesting, if not promising, one. For now though, let’s take a gander at the results of our 2002 Creature Corner Reader’s Poll where we gave you a chance to choose the best and the worst in horror of the past year.


Without a doubt, “The Ring” was a definite champ, sweeping 5 out of the 13 categories we posed to you. Despite the heated debates the film has caused on our message boards, there was no doubt a lot of you really dug this American retread of the classic Japanese film.


BEST HORROR FILM OF ‘02


THE RING (with 46% of the votes)
Runners Up: FRAILTY and DAGON were tied for second each with 10% of the votes; BLADE 2 took third place with 7% of the votes


WORST HORROR FILM OF ’02


FEAR DOT COM (with 26% of the votes)
Runners Up: HALLOWEEN – RESURRECTION crawled to second with 23% of the votes; and GHOST SHIP and JASON X grappled for third each with 11% of the votes


SCARIEST SCENE OF ’02


The conclusion of “THE RING” (44% of the votes)
Runners Up: The eerie closet shot from THE RING snagged second with 7% of the votes; and tying up third place each with 5% of the votes…the birthday party alien sighting from SIGNS and Busta Rhymes’ working some kung fu on Michael Myers in HALLOWEEN – RESURRECTION (cute)


BEST FOREIGN HORROR FILM OF ’02


DOG SOLDIERS (with 33% of the votes)
Runners Up: DARK WATER, DAGON, and AUDITION all tied up second place each with 6% of the votes; 28 DAYS LATER and THE EYE took third


BEST HORROR DVD PRESENTATION OF ’02


New Line’s BLADE II (with 22% of the votes)
Runners Up: JASON X sliced up second place with 12% of the votes and Anchor Bay’s Necronomicon Edition of THE EVIL DEAD took third with 10% of the votes


BEST HORROR SCORE OF ’02


TIE: Hans Zimmer/THE RING and James Newton Howard/SIGNS each with 18% of the votes.
Runners Up: HALLOWEEN – RESURRECTION and RESIDENT EVIL creeped into second each with 11% of the votes and BLADE II finished third with 7% of the votes


BEST STRAIGHT TO VIDEO HORROR OF ’02


DAGON (with 38% of the votes)
Runners Up: DOG SOLDIERS finished second with 17% of the votes and HELLRAISER – HELLSEEKER took third with 11% of the votes


BEST ACTOR OF ’02


Bill Paxton /FRAILTY (18% of the votes)
Runners Up: Mel Gibson/“SIGNS” came in second with 11% of the votes; Anthony Hopkins and Ralph Fiennes from “RED DRAGON” chewed their way to third place each with 9% of the votes


BEST ACTRESS OF ’02


Naomi Watts /THE RING(with a whopping 70% of the votes)
Runners Up: Jamie Lee Curtis/“HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION” found herself in second place with 7% of the votes while Raquel Merono/“DAGON” wound up in third with 4% of the votes


FAVORITE GUILTY PLEASURE OF 2002


JASON X (with 28% of the votes)
Runners Up: HALLOWEEN – RESURRECTION proudly stands in second with 13% of the votes while RESIDENT EVIL languished in third with only 5% of the votes


THE MOST ANTICIPATED HORROR FILM OF 2003


HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES (with 45% of the votes)
Runners Up: FREDDY VS. JASON came out in second place with 36% of the votes and DARKNESS FALLS finished third with 7% of the votes


ALL TIME FAVORITE HORROR FILM


HALLOWEEN (with 25% of the votes)
Runners Up: DAWN OF THE DEAD and TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRED tied for second each with 9% of the votes; John Carpenter’s THE THING beat the rest to third place with 7% of the votes


BEST NEW FACE IN HORROR


Naomi Watts (with 20% of the votes)
Runners Up: Katherine Isabelle (“Ginger Snaps”, “Freddy vs. Jason”) slinked into second with 10% of the votes and Bianca Kajlich (“Halloween: Resurrection”) took third with 8% of the votes


There you have it, fiends. The conclusion to our first annual Reader’s Poll. We’d like to thank all of those who participated.
