Looks like a solid list to me - not sure about Gangs of N.Y. being #1 though.

Signs and We Were Soldiers shouldn't be on the list.

Not sure about the last 15, but his top 10 coincide with his picks here: http://www.moviecitynews.com/awards/top_10/index.html

I totally understand why Signs wasn't liked by all, but I thought it was a great movie, worthy of much discussion. And I tend to like the types of movies that make you think after you see them, and you don't stop thinking about them or what they were trying to say after you watched them.

Both Roeper's and Ebert's critical hard-ons for "Minority Report" are instantly suspect.

The phrase 'critical hard-on' just gave me one.

I wouldn't put all those on my top 25 (I didn't even really like Changing Lanes), but not a bad list.

We were Soldiers, suprisingly was on the s.F Chronicles Top Ten too. Hmmm.
I dont think Signs belongs on any Top Ten list.
Decent movie totally runined by another one of Shamalans (sp?) endings.

Wheres xxx?

Both We Were Soldiers and Signs are on my top 10 list so I wasn't surprised at all. As much as Roeper is made fun of and hated around here, I would take his list over Ebert's because it fits more closely with what I liked this year.

I remember seeing someone's picks for Oscars and they had Mel Gibson and We Were Soldiers heavily picked. I laughed and then saw the film a week later and liked it a lot and almost (notice I said almost) had to agree with them.

Overall, great list in my opinion, even though it's missing a few I would have put on there. Getting sick and tired of all the adoration over Adaptation, but that's just me, and I can't understand the love by both Ebert and Roeper for Minority Report, which I caught as a matinee during the summer and walked out disappointed about.

Reoper was one of the lone voices of dissent on the first one, so I wouldn't expect him to be bowled over by part two.

Signs over Spirited Away? Please pass the crack pipe, Roeper - I'd like a BIG hit off of whatever you're smoking. M Night Shamalamadingdong isnt even worthy to wipe Miyazaki's ass let alone trounce his movie like that.

Worst. List. Ever.

Um, do you ever read before you post? See the part where it said the list is in no particular order?

Actually, Roeper really liked TTT.

He probably just feels that it doesn't rank in the best 25 films of the year.

Actually, as others have pointed out, the list is in no particular order. That said, I would pick Signs over Spirited Away easily.....and I'm not taking a hit off any crack pipe......at least not right now.

I'll answer for him too. Even though the list is in no particular order, Spirited Away isn't on the list at all. So, despite what the real order is (if he even bothered to rank them, even just in his head), the fact is that Roeper is saying he thinks Signs is a better movie than SA.
