Can anyone list some London-based "swinging sixties" films?
I was just watching a documentary on the actor Michael Caine and there was mention of the early sixties and some of the stylish films that were made then like, for example, "Alfie" and "The Ipcress File", the action of which largely took place in and around London.
I immediately thought of "Blow Up" but, as I am no expert, wondered whether the cognoscenti here could help compile a list of such films; perhaps indicating whether they rated any in particular....
.... just to confuse things, was there an equivalent kind of film on the US i.e stylish, maybe city-based and particularly in/of the sixties (Midnight Cowboy; Bullitt; Coogan's Bluff).
Thanks in advance!

I love the swingin 60's! Here are a few British films:
Bedazzled
Blow Up
Georgy Girl
Help - OOP
Knack, The - on DVD
Modesty Blaise - on DVD
Morgan - on DVD
Smashing Time - on DVD
Wonderwall - on DVD
As for American films, I'll have to think on that one.

From 1965: DARLING (not on DVD that I'm aware of))
Julie Christie won an Oscar for her role as a supermodel in swinging '60's London, with Dirk Bogarde and Laurence Harvey serving as stepping stones for her career advancement. Pretty kinky for its time as the Production Code had crumbled. Fine b&w photography and good music. By 1969 things had really loosened up and director Schlesinger got away with MIDNIGHT COWBOY.

Swingin' 60's London is under-represented on DVD. There's a lot of cool films out and about that should be released, but who knows when that'll happen? Films that I'd like to add to that list would be Here We go Round The Mulberry Bush (a mod teen sex comedy), The Touchables (about the abduction of a Davy Jones-type popstar by four yummy British girls, kind of like King of Comedy starring the Spice Girls), Having A Wild Weekend starring the Dave Clark Five and directed by John Boorman (!), and Privilege , to name a few.
On the American front there are movies with mod scenes in them, but very few full-length mod films in general. Francis Ford Coppola's You're A Big Boy Now had a mod undercurrent to it, and anything with the Monkees (Head) was more mod than psychedelic. A quick look through the Something Weird video catalogue (they have DVDs) will help.

@ Scot1458's "Carry On"Interesting thoughts! Thanks guys!
Any more suggestions out there on stylish, London (or US city) based 60s films along the lines mentioned in the first posts and some of the follow-ups?
