Favorite Dave Matthews Band Song/CD?

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering what you guys thought your favorite Dave Matthews Band song and cd was? I searched for a thread like this but didn't find anything.

would like to say #41, but that is usually the crowd favorite, but i'll have to go with drive in drive out, or proudest monkey, maybe rapunzel.

#40, it holds special meaning to me.. specifically, the version from Yoshi's. Seek Up, OSW, and Dreaming Tree also are great to hear in concert.

BTCS is DMB's masterpiece. When Everyday came out, I was convinced that they had reached their peak with BTCS and the following tour (remember that a good portion of the songs from LWS/Busted Stuff were born on the BTCS tour). LWS and BS were reconfirming. This past 2002 tour though, blows any previous tour out of the water. The band had much better chemistry between themselves and the audience than ever before. Sept 9 at the Gorge was possibly one of the greatest shows I've ever seen or listened to.. (and I've got the entire 2002 tour in my trunk right now.. along with many many previous shows, which are not in my trunk. )

I've been meaning to pick up some Dave Matthews Band stuff, but my knowledge of the band is very limited. I've liked everything I've heard so far, my favourites being "Space Between" and "Crash Into Me" (yes, I know... typical!).

So what would be a good introduction for a newbie fan?

The worst song in their entire catalog is ^ Proudest Monkey

But I digress...

song - Halloween (best version is the early live one on the Recently LP - Carter's drumming during the jam is breathtaking)

album - Before These Crowded Streets (hardly a weak song on there - well, I don't much like 'Spoon,' but the rest of the album is DMB at its best)

Other faves in no particular order:
Recently
#41
Two Step
The Stone
Raven
Bartender
What You Are/So Right (the only truly great songs off of Everyday - not that all the others are duds by any means, but it's certainly their weekest record)
Say Goodbye
Jimi Thing
Last Stop
The Dreaming Tree
... and a few others I'm not thinking of right now

I would highly recommend picking up Live at Red Rocks 2 CD set. This is the album that really got me into the band and I've bought everything else after that. The new album, Busted Stuff is great too.

Song: Best of What's Around
Album: Under the Table and Dreaming

I know I'm in the minority here, but nothing they've done since has captured my fancy.

pick up Crash first. i started on Crash, even though i "hated" DMB at the time. i bought the album because i loved "Crash Into Me", but didn't really like the band outside of that. the more i listened to that album, the more DMB grew on me.

i went on to buy Under the Table and Dreaming next. both of these are really strong albums.

i bought Before These Crowded Streets the first week it was released. this is the album that truly hooked me. in my opinion, it is their greatest album too date by a longshot. it is also quite a bit different from the previous two (Crash and UtTaD). it has string arrangements and banjo and is just a more advanced set. it also shows the band growing.

Everyday sucked because Glen Ballard cowrote. and when he cowrites, his influence becomes really apparent and adds a large degree of suck to the proceedings. of course, if you liked "The Space Between", you will probably be more inclined to like this entire album. i, for one, am not at all fond of that song.

Busted Stuff is alright, but you can still feel the influence of Glen. The Lillywhite Sessions is significantly better in my opinion, even though it contains many of the same songs as BS. if you can obtain a copy of those versions of the songs, you will be better off, IMO.

something you will find is that the albums will absolutely grow on you. the first few times i heard his first three major label albums (Under the Table, Crash, and Before These..), i was apathetic and really indifferent. i didn't really realize how many times i had listened to them until i realized how much i really loved them. now they are some of my favorite modern rock albums. they don't grow old to me.

now for the topic at hand:

favorite song -
i've had too many to be able to pin it down, but those that have been:
"Halloween", "The Last Stop", "Warehouse", "Jimi Thing", "Crash Into Me", "Where Are You Going?", "Big-Eyed Fish" (LWS, not BS), "Digging a Ditch" (LWS)

albums from favorite to least -
Before These Crowded Streets 5 out of 5
The Lillywhite Sessions 4.5
Under the Table and Dreaming 4
Crash 4 - tied with Under the Table
Busted Stuff 3
Everyday 2.5 ("Everyday" is the only real winner on this album, IMO)

Well, I've listened to most of the songs you guys suggested (thanks to all those who posted) and my current favorite is "Grey Street" off the album "Busted Stuff" but then again, I haven't listened to all the songs.
