Hmmm, wonder what this is like? I remember seeing the La's live in '91 after they released their album. I was thinking how cool it was going to be to watch them over the years. Doh.

Yeah well Lee Mavers decided the album wasn't good enough to be released, still thinks it isn't to this day. Power broke off, formed Cast, now is on his own. 2 samples of low quality songs are here from an acoustic set :

What is Lee Mavers doing today? I'm sure I could find this info if I searched. That's funny he thought their album was not good enough to release. It's true that a few songs sound like demos, but it's a pretty solid recording. Still enjoy it today.

Mavers is still sitting in his house trying to make the perfect record. I read an interview in NME I think 3 or 4 years ago with him saying his record, when released, would be one of the best. Reminds me of Axl Rose and his constant tinkering.

Doesn't Mavers realize his idols like the Kinks knocked out stuff one after the other?

1995 article on Mavers :

Other than that, I know there are more, but the sites are kaput. Maybe searching NME? Dude's a recluse now.

That interview is sad. Didn't make any sense. And it being 7 years old makes me wonder WHAT he's doing today. Maybe he can live off the royalties from one hit song.

Anyone have Cast's "Beetroot" album? The reviews have been rather spotty on this release, was wondering if any other Cast fans can recommend this album or not.

Giles,

I have Beetroot, let me just say it's not like any of the other Cast albums out there. They seemed to experiment with sampling and other electronic samplers/whatever to mess with their tracks they already had down. Kind of like they were trying to break the mold of what they already were cast in. I enjoyed it, just wish they would have released more B-Sides off singles.

Wish I was younger, I'd fly out to NYC just to see him. I planned a Europe trip around their concert leg in Ireland

Also, the JP show will most likely be all acoustic. I can only hope someone goes, with a minidisc recorder

Bump yet again, he's doing 2 shows at the Mercury Lounge on the 19th and 20th with fellow Liverpool band The Coral. Someone go and minidisc it please
