Eleni Mandell - Snakebite
Dan Melchior's Broke Revue - Heavy Dirt
Neko Case - Blacklisted

I'm all sorts of broke, so this week pains me because I can't make it to the Empty Bottle tonight for a show, or Super Furry Animals on Wednesday, or the Reigning Sound on Thursday. But Friday, I'm definitely going to see Bob Log III at the Fireside Bowl.

And there are lots of shows in the near future (just gonna have to play it by ear). But another one I'm on is the Immortal Lee County Killers on October 18 at the Beat Kitchen (with the Broke Revue playing as well).

I didn't get any new cds today...

BUT! Upcoming shows:

Sunday the 6th - Fly Pan Am and Do Make Say Think in Baltimore
Thursday the 10th - Doug Martsch, Mike Johnson, and Ian Waters in DC
I'm not sure of the date, but I believe that The Dismemberment Plan is playing in Richmond sometime this month.
In November, on either the 10th or the 12th I'm going to see Sigur Ros in DC.

This is a good year for concerts so far! Just wish I had seen Bright Eyes last week in DC.

Yancey, I thought the new Death Cab cd didn't come out until the 11th? I'm hoping to review it for the college radio though, so I'll have to check with the guy who distributes the cds.

I usually just rip my CD's and put them on my computer and play them on shuffle -- but today I'm listening to The Used - "The Used" -- I downloaded it, and I like it enough that I plan on buying it.

In my car, I've been listening to:

From Autumn to Ashes - "Too Bad Your Beautiful"
Startling Line - forget the title?
Taking Back Sunday
Finch - "What is it to Burn?"

Yeah, I've been in a punk/emo screaming vocals mood lately.

I'm reviewing the Death Cab record for Pulse, the Tower mag. Tag Team Media is doing the publicity. Just email them.

Ikara Colt sound like Sonic Youth. Exactly like Sonic Youth. Very good record.

Oh yeah, I'm going to see Doug Martsch too.

Just got back from the White Stripes. They covered the Flaming Groovies' "Teenage Head." I was in heaven.

I'm really digging it. If you liked Satellite Rides, you should like the Instigator. It's a good bit more poppy than Satellite Rides, but the energy level's still pretty high through most of the disc. The disc abandons just about any hint of a twangy sound, and it's pretty radio friendly for the most part. The songs are so good though that it doesn't matter. There's one cow-punk throwback, "The El", which would have been right at home on Too Far to Care. It's a good song, but it breaks the flow of the record and probably would have been better off on the next Old 97's disc.

Do you know if the Idlewild show is a one CMJ Music Fest show, might try to come up to NYC to see them even though I just saw them in August.

Did your copy of "Intergalatic 7's" come with a bonus second disc of b-sides.

Let's see, a package from Action Records came in this afternoon and I got:

Suede - Positivity (2 part CD-S)
Oasis - Little by Little/She is Love (CD + DVD single)
Supergrass - Grace (2 part CD-S)
The Crescent - Spinnin' Wheels (2 part CD-S)
Garbage - Shut Your Mouth (3 part CD-S)
Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster - Celebrate Your Mother (CD-S)
Minuteman - 5000 Minutes of Pain (CD-S)
The Datsuns - In Love (CD-S)
Strokes - Someday (CD-S)
Cinerama - Cinerama Holiday

Saving my money for next week's concerts:
Departure Lounge - Black Cat (10/9)
Ash/Dashboard Confessional - 9:30 (10/10)
Cinerama - Black Cat (10/11)

Even though Amazon.co.uk has a great price for the new Supergrass 9.99 pounds, I am gonna hold off and see if an American release is announced within the next two weeks.

Their show is Cmj. I think they're coming over on a break from touring Europe with Coldplay. Where did you see them in August? Hopefully they will tour more over here when the album gets released. They just filmed a new video in LA with Wim Wenders. Also, the bassist just left the band, no one is sure if it's for good, but their current tour is Bob-less.

Yes, the ash cd came with the b-sides. Its all wonderful!

I saw Idlewild at this year's V2002 Music Festival in Chelmsford England. They were fantastic. Haven't yet bought the new album after Grunter (whom I trust in terms of musical taste and avid fan of the band) gave it a less than glowing review. Is the new album, "Remote Part" getting a domestic release?

Peter Gabriel - Shaking the Tree
Pulp - We Love Life
Mary Prankster - Roulette Girl
Mary Prankster - Tell Your Friends
Mary Prankster - Blue Skies Forever
Elvis Costello - When I Was Cruel
Elvis Costello - Cruel Smile
Queen - Greatest Hits III
DJ Z-Trip & DJ P - Uneasy Listening Vol. 1

The only show I'm planning on seeing is when Mary Prankster make their way to Columbus, opening up for some local band. One of my regrets (which I just realized) from moving from DC to the midwest is that I never got to see them live (they're from Baltimore), since I wasn't into them back then. They're breaking up after the tour, so I'm glad that I'll finally get a chance to.

I don't normally develop crushes on musicians, but I want to have, like, 10,000 of her babies.

(Mary Prankster is the frontwoman, as well as the name of the band, BTW)

The album is fantastic, a little more accesible than the last one. The plan right now is for it to come out early 2003. And the bassist is gone for good.

I've been listening too:
- My Bloody Valentine - Loveless (love this CD, although I haven't heard it in ages)
- Coldplay - Paris show from Aug - bootleg (great show and sound, very much like the show I saw in Toronto)
- South - From Here On In (just discovering this one, some really good songs that bring back memories of some baggy classics)
- John Squire - Time Changes Everything (interesting to hear his voice, although I'm not a huge fan of the CD)
