Jewel to cover Sweet Home Alabama

"Pop singer Jewel is working with Pink / Christina Aguilara producer, Linda Perry, to cover Sweet Home Alabama. The song will be featured on the soundtrack to the movie with the same name starring Reece Witherspoon. The movie and soundtrack are due in late September."

Sounds interesting!

To many artists just butcher great songs...recent example...the Dixie Chicks cover of "Landslide"

This just sounds like a really bad idea...

Just because her because she lives with her boyfriend on a ranch in Texas does not give her any claims to cover a southern classic.

Just when I thought that song couldn't suck any more than it already does, the thought of Snaggletooth yodeling her way through it enters my mind. . .

I even like Jewel and think this is a bad idea. Then again, don't get me started on what I already think of the stupid movie.

Could Jewel be any further from Alabama? I bet she's never even visited!

Guess she's run out of songwriting ideas.

No, I'm sure she will find something else to proselytize about soon enough.

Actually Jewel is recording a new album now, due out the first half of next year.

Shedaisy will be on the soundtrack but with a different song. Online retailers often mix up track lists.

Everyone is dogging Jewel, with no mention of just how horrible that song is, no matter who does it.

You can hear some of Jewel's version of Sweet HOme Alabama at www.sweet-home-alabama.com It sounds ok I guess, she went in a more rock direction with it, some voice morphing stuff. It plays as soon as you open up the flash site.

Ooh, that sounds really bad. Why didn't they just use the original Skynyrd version? ugh.
