Yes, I heard the NEW U2 single!!!!!!!!!!

It's called Electrical Storm, and it was played selectively on UK radio. It's awsome, and at about 3:30 The Edge pulls out the Where the Streets Have No Name riff for a second or so before going into a solo. The single comes out October 21!

sweet huh? Yep, Edge is the man!

btw: It sure sounds like a final mix(I hope so!), but I'm not sure as U2.com said a demo was given to a friend as a wedding present.

It's been playing on LA radio since yesterday.

I guess it's going on a new greatest hits album. I love these bands, they release a greatest hits album, then the release one new album, Oh boy, now it's time for another greatest hits album!

U2's first greatest hits covered 1980-1990. It was known that they were going to release another greatest hits covering the 1990-2000 songs. That cd will include the new single...

Actually, even though I think U2 should get off their ass and release another disc , they do have a big enough catalog where they could put out another GH disc. It's those bands that only have one or two albums TOTAL then put out a GH disc or "remix" disc that makes me laugh.

Our local alterna-station (Kroq) played it twice in row yesterday.

And even though I'm totally over U2, I really liked the song. It was pretty rockin' and feel-good. I think it's their most Beatles-like sounding song.

Slane isn't gonna be released on DVD. Looks like only the CBS special (What they edited together is only about 45 minutes long)

Best of, and DVD NEWS: (from u2.com)

Exclusive! U2: Best Of 1990 - 2000

The second volume of U2's Best of Collection, covering the years 1990-2000, will be released on November 4th. A limited edition Best of the B-sides will also be released, along with a new single Electrical Storm and , in December, a Best Of 1990 - 2000 DVD.

The second volume of U2's Best Of collection will be released by Universal-Island Records on November 4th. Covering the years from 1990 to 2000, its sixteen tracks are the highlights of the albums Achtung Baby, Zooropa, Passengers: Original Soundtracks 1, Pop and All That You Can't Leave Behind. Two brand new tracks have been recorded for this set, Electrical Storm, which will be released as a single, and The Hands That Built America which will feature on the soundtrack to the Martin Scorsese movie The Gangs Of New York, released by Miramax in December 2002.

In addition, four songs, Discothèque, Gone, Numb and Staring At The Sun have been substantially reworked by producer Mike Hedges.

A strictly limited edition run of U2: The Best Of 1990 - 2000 will feature a second cd collection, The Best Of The B-sides, as well as a bonus DVD with exclusive content including the History Mix of U2 in the '90s. This special value set will be available for one week only, after which the A-sides will be sold as a single cd.

The single, Electrical Storm, due for release on October 21st will be available on two CDs and a DVD format. The tracklistings are:

CD1 - Electrical Storm (William Orbit Mix) plus two remixes of New York, Nice Mix and Nasty Mix both by KLF's Jimmy Cauty.
CD2 - Electrical Storm and a live medley of Bad, 40 and Where The Streets Have No Name recorded in Boston on the Elevation tour.
DVD - Electrical Storm (William Orbit Mix) and video, exclusive sound bites from the band and a collection of photographs by Anton Corbijn.
The video for Electrical Storm is directed by Anton Corbijn and features actress Samantha Morton, who stars in Spielberg's Minority Report and received an Oscar nomination for her role in Woody Allen's Sweet And Lowdown.

The full album tracklisting is:

Even Better Than The Real Thing
Mysterious Ways
Beautiful Day
Electrical Storm (William Orbit Mix) (new song)
One
Miss Sarajevo
Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of

Discothèque (new mix)
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me

The 1990s was a period of reinvention and experimentation for U2, embracing rapidly developing technology and incorporating it into their distinctive sound. Many of the tracks on the B-sides collection are remixes of U2 tracks by leading DJs and producers, including Paul Oakenfold and Alan Moulder.

The B-sides tracklisting is as follows:

Lady With The Spinning Head (Extended Dance Mix)
Dirty Day (Junk Day Mix)
Electrical Storm
Summer Rain
North & South Of The River
Your Blue Room
Happiness Is A Warm Gun (The Gun Mix)

Numb (Give Me Some More Dignity Mix)
Mysterious Ways (Solar Plexus Club Mix)
If God Will Send His Angels - (Big Yam Mix)
Lemon (Jeep Mix)
Discothèque (Hexidecimal Mix)

This collection follows the release in 1998 of The Best Of 1980 - 1990, which topped the charts and achieved platinum sales throughout the world.

Finally, a Best Of 1990 - 2000 DVD will be released on December 2nd and will feature promo videos of tracks from the A-sides cd, complete with commentary by the directors, who include Wim Wenders, Kevin Godley, Stephane Sednaoui, Anton Corbijn and Jonas Akerlund. Six bonus tracks are included on the DVD - Please, If God Will Send His Angels, Wild Horses, Lemon, Last Night On Earth and MoFo. In addition, many of the tracks feature alternative versions of the clips made for different countries, as early cuts or to accompany different mixes. Further exclusive content includes a mini documentary, The Road To Sarajevo, filmed in the Bosnian capital in the run up to U2's historic 1997 concert and complete with performance footage.

Wow....this right here reminds me once again why "Greatest Hits" albums are simple wretched. Could someone please explain to me why that stupid Batman song is on there?

I love that stupid Batman song.

The track order is weird, though. And where the heck are Walk On, Lemon and Please?

The Batman track is most likely on the Greatest Hits because it was never included on an official U2 release. (Yes, there was a single, but singles are not usually produced on a regular basis. They're a promotional item usually only available around the time of the release of an album.)

I, too, wonder why "Please" wasn't included on the A-side disc. That was certainly a higher point of the "Pop" release than "Gone."

And what the hell is "The First Time?" Is it a Passengers song? Was it from the "Million Dollar Hotel" soundtrack? I don't believe I've ever heard it.

The First Time is from Zooropa. The reason Elevation and Walk On are not on the album is they were released as singles in 2001. Gone was played quite a bit on the Elevation tour and I know the band loves it. Please was released as a single so I don't know why that didn't make the cut. It's possible it will be a hidden track (Like October was on the first best of)

Hidden tracks = stupid.

Why are bands still doing this after all of these years?

Yeah, you're right. But that seems so totally random. Why that song in particular? It's not even one that stands out for me on "Zooropa." Was it released separately as a single? Why not make room for another "Achtung Baby!" or "All That You Can't Leave Behind" single?

"Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses?," "If You Wear That Velvet Dress," and "Wake Up, Dead Man" would seem better choices. Even "Zoo Station" or "Zooropa" would be nice additions.

I'm totally embarrassed that I can't recall "The First Time." The tunes to "Some Days Are Better Than Others" and "Dirty Day" pop into my head immediately, but I still for the life of me can't remember "The First Time."

The funniest thing is when on the back of the CD cover its listed Hidden Track: (Song title). Am I the only one who doesn't see that as hidden?

Even Better Than The Real Thing (Perfecto Mix) is great. It was released as part of their fan club remix CD...and bootlegged ever since.

I really like "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" I think it is a great transition between Achtung Baby and Zooropa
