Opinions: good punk band compilations?

Hola,

Have been going through a "punk phase" for a while now, listening to lots of Husker Du, Clash, Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols etc. and have been looking around trying to find good multiple artist compilation CDs out there for some of the other bands I'd like to check out but don't necessarily want to dive into a whole album of. Looked around some on Amazon.com but hard to narrow it down. Bands I'm interested in checking out more of include Black Flag, Minutemen, Mission To Burma, Wire, Bad Brains, DK, Minor Threat, etc. etc. etc. Any punk fans out there able to guide me toward some (hopefully) inexspensive compilations that might include a lot of late '70s and '80s punk bands? Thanx

Try Rhino's DIY series, which spans the British, New York, and L.A. punk scenes. Very good compilations.

These also might be good for your "punk phase" (if you haven't heard these already)...

Misfits - any album, but especially the S/T compilation
The Jam - In the City
Flipper - Generic Album
Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance
Ramones - Rocket to Russia
Stooges - Fun House
MC5 - Kick Out the Jams

The soundtrack to "The Decline of Western Civilization" is a pretty nasty punk up.

I would just go straight to your store and buy "Pink Flag" by Wire.
And Gang of Four's "Entertainment".

Try Faster and Louder 1 and 2. Good stuff and fairly cheap I think.
