Concerts You've Been To/Are Going To This Year

It's been a great year for shows for me this year. Once I decided to ignore arena and shed shows in favor of smaller clubs, I was able to get tickets to a lot more artists than I had before.

So far this year I've seen:

3/1 & 3/2 - Magnetic Fields - Complete 69 Love Songs over 2 nights at Lincoln Center.

4/20 - Beulah, Mazarin at Bowery Ballroom

5/3 - The Ladybug Transistor, Essex Green at Knitting Factory

6/29 - Clinic at TLA (Philadelphia)

And I've got tickets to:

8/9 - Cornelius at Bowery Ballroom

8/15 - Strokes, White Stripes at Radio City Music Hall

8/24 - Unlimited Sunshine Tour - Cake, Modest Mouse, Flaming Lips, De La Soul, Kinky at Prospect Park

9/6 - Tortoise, Mouse on Mars at Irving Plaza

9/7 - The Sea & Cake, Freakwater, Archer Prewitt at Bowery Ballroom

9/15 - The Three Terrors (Stephin Merritt, Dudley Klute and LD Beghtol of Magnetic Fields, etc) at Bowery Ballroom

10/19 - Clinic, Apples in Stereo at Irving Plaza

And as soon as they go onsale, I'll get tickets to:

10/10 - Low, Mark Eitzel at Bowery Ballroom.

Oh, can you tell the Bowery Ballroom is my favorite place in NYC to catch a show? Perfect sound, excellent sightlines, 3 bars, very spacious lounge in the basement for pre and post show libations.

Who have you seen/are you going to see this year?

I'm going to see Deep Purple, the Scorpions, and Dio on Friday.

I have been reading tremendous reviews from this tour - all of them say that this is by far the tour of the summer!

I'd love to go see the David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar tour, but I just bought a house and am strapped for $$$.

It's been a slow year so far...

Wilco - House of Blues - Las Vegas - excellent show despite Tweedy's vocal dislike of the city. The opener, Crooked Fingers, was damn fine in their own right.

Trey Anastasio - Thomas & Mack Center - Las Vegas (2 nights) - excellent high energy shows with great openers (Los Lobos, the Roots, Spearhead).

Dashboard Confessional/Ben Kweller - House of Blues - Las Vegas - As a favor to a friend - I can't say enough bad things about DC and their fans. No real desire to see 1000 high schoolers screaming the lyrics and actually sobbing at how profound the songs are. Lame. Kweller wasn't bad though. He's touring with My Morning Jacket now, who are one of my favorite bands. Why, then, did I have to put up with the "emo" version of N'Sync when I saw him?

Particle - Blue Note - Las Vegas - These guys are gonna be big, and this 6 hour show from 1am til dawn absolutely blew me away. I'd encourage anyone to check these guys out.

Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey - Legend's Lounge - Las Vegas - I want to like this band. I'm told I should like this band, but I don't. Second time I've seen 'em and the second time they've completely failed to impress me. The show was a rather sad farewell to the best live music venue in the city though.

Medeski Martin & Wood/Karl Denson's Tiny Universe - The Joint - Las Vegas - Excellent show. Not much else to say.

Got a few coming up...

Guster/John Mayer - The Joint - Las Vegas - I love Guster. I hate John Mayer. At least I'll be able to leave early.

Waiting for a few bands to announce their fall tours, then I'd have more to add here...

Only one, so far, but I will have doubled that by this time tomorrow night:

Tenacious D back in April

Sonic Youth in Dallas tomorrow night

Sure wish that Wilco would stop somewhere near Oklahoma City sometime this year--last time they were here was November 1997, IIRC. And for as much as I love them, it would be hard for me to justify driving all the way up to Denver or Kansas City just to see 'em. . .

so far I've only seen Paul McCartney, but I saw him twice.

Living in Connecticut, I miss out on a lot of show unless I travel to New York or Boston, which isn't practical alot of times.

I'm going to see Paul again twice and Sheryl Crow is coming here so I might go see her.

I'd love to see OLP or Ben Folds. Do you have any links to tour information?

You can get tour information for just about any artists at http://www.pollstar.com

They're about 95% complete most of the time, some more obscure artists may not be listed.
