Best album nobody's heard?
This subject has probably been done here before, so let's do it again. What do you consider the best album nobody seems to know about. We're talking about an absolute classic that blows you away every time you hear it, but you seem to be the only one that knows about it. My choice:
House of Freaks - Tantilla
Honorable mention:
Oysterband - Holy Bandits

Could you describe those albums? I'm curious...
My two, both relatively recent:
Hickey -- Hickey
Amazing hardcore/pop-punk album released in mid 90s. 10 songs totally 12 minutes and a final cut stretching for 30 minutes. Those one minute songs will have three or four time changes in that small of a timespan.
Vehicle Birth -- Tragedy
The best math rock album ever released. Great riffs, smart, fun music. Not brainy, but still intelligent.

Yancey,
House of Freaks I guess could be described as aggressive roots rock with alterna-country and jangle pop influences, even a slight dash of rockabilly. At times maybe kinda like the louder, faster Uncle Tupelo songs, but darker. House of Freaks were only two guys, Bryan Harvey and Johnny Hott. They did a one-off "supergroup" album called Gutterball with Steve Wynn and Bob Rupe (from the Silos). "Tantilla" was released on Rhino in 1989. I'm pretty sure it's OOP now. The songwriting on "Tantilla" is absolutely stunning. Every song is a winner. They're from Richmond, VA.
Oysterband is a rousing contemporary Celtic rock band not unlike the Pogues. With your electric guitars and heavy drumming, you get a nice dose of accordian and fiddle. These Irish rabble-rousers are great musicians, great songwriters, and have a great sense of humor. At times there music is so joyous and inspiring, it makes you want to dance in the streets and kiss strangers.

Ocean Machine - Biomech
Probably Devin Townsend's most approachable album, and a damned good one at that. You don't have to import it from Canada anymore, either.

The Birthday Massacre - "The Birthday Massacre"
- it's pretty difficult to confine this band to one genre as they are part goth, synthpop, guitar and retro (among other things).
- sweet female vocals and enough atmosphere on each track to cut with a knife. At times I'm reminded of The Cure, only more danceable and with a much harder guitar edge (I'm sure they would kill me for that comparison... lol).
- considering this is their debut album (independently released in Canada), I'm super impressed. Check out the songs "Horror Show", "To Die For" and "Video Kid" if you can track them down.

Taxiride - Taxiride
They had a song a few years ago called "Get Set" on the Election Soundtrack but I never heard them sense, bought the CD and it is awsome, kinda folksey accustic rock. I think they are from Australia.

Then you go and say that they have female vocals and my interest suddenly dries up.
Why must every current so-called goth band aside from The Cure have women at the mic?
Where are the Robert Smith soundalikes when you really need them? Even watered-down wanna-be Cure would be acceptable at this point.

And Algebra One -- man, that brings back memories... I haven't listened to them in ages.

Then you should check out Interpol. Sounds very much like early Cure and Joy Division. They have an EP out that's excellent. They have a full length coming out in late August that's dull.
