George Michael writes song about Pres. Bush

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,56768,00.html

NEW YORK — Washed-up pop star George Michael is trying to relaunch his career with a controversial song and video insinuating that President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair are gay lovers.

In the tawdry tune, Michael also blasts America's handling of the Sept. 11 terror attacks — calling President Bush a "trigger-happy" politician who is "bullying" the world.

Hasn't George Michael made a big enough fool out of himself yet?

Yeah, wasn't sure where to post it. Figured since it was taken from a major news source, I'd put it here. Mods, feel free to move it if you see fit.

but in any case what music is not designed to draw attention to itself, and be somewhat controversial?

Any publicity for a musician is almost always good publicity.

His video has been delayed a couple of weeks..

Well, since he obviously wanted to commit career suicide... he's certainly going out with a bang.

Good riddance.

Are the lyrics something like this?

Oh well I guess it would be nice,
If I could touch Dick Cheney,
I know not everybody,
Gets to touch Dick Cheney like you...

And I know all the games you and Tony play,
Cause I'd like to play them too.

If George Michael wants publicity he should try beating off in public again.

from nme.com

GEORGE MICHAEL has turned political and laid into British Prime Minister TONY BLAIR, portraying him as PRESIDENT BUSH’s poodle in a controversial video for his latest single 'SHOOT THE DOG' .

The animated video shows a cartoon Blair as a poodle being tickled on the tummy by George Bush.

The singer also appears in the video, riding on a rocket from Iraq which lands on Tony and Cherie Blair in bed.

And the lyrics include the lines: "So Cherie, my dear, could you leave the way clear for sex tonight? Tell him: ‘Tony, Tony, I know that you’re horny but there’s something’ bout that Bush ain’t right."

A cartoon Michael also gooses the Queen, strips to his underpants and climbs on to a terrified looking Cherie who’s cowering under the bedclothes. In another scene, Bush and Blair are shown dancing to The Village People.

"I know this is dangerous territory," Michael l tells today’s Daily Mirror. "This is the most political thing I’ve ever done and it’s a massive and totally unnecessary risk for me.

"Shoot The Dog is intended as a piece of political satire, no more no less, and I hope that it will make people laugh and dance, and then think a little, that's all."

But he says he wants to draw attention to his fears that the US could draw Britain into a war with Saddam Hussein.

He urges Blair to listen to public opinion about the possible bombing of Iraq and calls on him to be a "calming and rational influence" on Bush.

He began worrying about "a war between the secular world and the fundamentalist world" and that Britain could get caught up in it" early last year, he said. "Then September 11 happened and "I was just totally freaked out that what I had been writing about was happening in front of my eyes."

More support for my opinion that actors and musicians should stay the hell out of public politics.

Way to go, GM. Now you've helped kill even a possibility of future record sales in your largest market.

If you notice at the top, the original story is from the New York Post (essentially a tabloid). I'd have been thoroughly disgusted if a respectable news agency had used the term "washed up" (whether its deserved or not).

Funny how people are commenting on the song and the video without EVER seeing or hearing it.

He isn't attacking Bush per se - he's attacking Tony Blair and how Blair is being Bush's lapdog.

Ahh... what desperate measures some artists will take to grasp at the spotlight. There's no such thing as bad press right?! Oi!

Guess he'll sell a few more albums in Afghanistan though. Good job, GM!

Arse.

If you take a song like this seriously, you've got issues.

I agree with Jepthah, in that musicians and actors should stay the hell out of public politics. These people should stick to what they do...good or bad.

This sort of thing that George Michael is doing, blasting Bush, Blair or whatver, is ridiculous. He is only digging a hole that has already "reached China". Musicians and actors putting down any politician, American or not, is so tired and unoriginal. (See Alec Baldwin...why are you not out of the country?) It is getting so old. Whoever dislikes someone doesn't really care what some washed up musician thinks of that person.

And to note...i don't take anything seriously.

Actually he's probably seen more bush than anyone at this forum. He was with guys and girls throughout the 80's Wham! tours.

So just because someone is popular they aren't allowed to voice their opinions? I'm sure if you were a celeb you'd never bring up politics right? Highly doubtful!

Actually...my political views are my business, do you know why?
Because I am not a policitian. If I were a politician, maybe I would voice them. But I am not paid to give my views to anyone but myself.

If I were a celebrity, I would probably be pretty unpopular with the other celebrities because I won't use my celebrity like most of them do...many "rape" the freedom and exposure they are given as celebrities, IMO.

What does Hollywood do? Give an extra percentage for talking politics?

I get so sick of celebrities taliking about things like politics (and religion). They think that the general public should listen to them and believe what they say...just because they are celebrities.

I sure as heck won't listen to somebody as idiotic as George Michael...or even Alec Baldwin...or even Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

I'd like more entertainment folk to voice their political opinions; Its a change from hearing politics from career politicians prostituting themselves to stay in office
