Piano store where I work to break world record

I work at a piano store here in town, and we are breaking a world record on the fourth of July. The world record for an ensemble piano performance performing on grand pianos is currently 96, and we are hoping to break that with a record 120 grand pianos. We will be playing a patriotic medley, and it looks like it's going to be really cool. You should see how impressive 122 grand pianos look when specially positioned in a medium-sized showroom. If I can, I'll take some pictures and post, but I'm going to be playing, too!

Here is the store on a normal day. All the uprights are gone now, though, to make room for all the grands. Ellis Piano

I never cease to be amazed at the wack-ass world records that exist.

Um, I thought it was pretty neat, myself. You would, too, if you were here witnessing it.

Well, it'll look impressive, but any musical performance can sonically handle one (1) piano, and no more.

I remember they did a huge multi-piano show at the opening ceremonies of the 1984 Olympics, and it was like Liberace Ninth Circle of Hell.

Well, we did it. Results have been sent in. 121 grand pianos played at the same time for 5 minutes 23 seconds. Don't know if any of you saw it, but CNN had a bit about it for national news. All of the major local stations were there to film it. Here are some pics, although I wish I had an aerial view so you could see how cool the pianos were arranged.

and here's the back of the t-shirt we made for the participants (and us).

Oh yeah...that is here in Birmingham. I saw all the ads for it in the Bham News.

Congrats on the world record. Did many people show up to see it?

Yeah, there were quite a few people that came. More than I thought would show up, definitely.

Um, loud. It was actually a very powerful thing, especially being a patriotic song on the Fourth of July. Lots of chillbumps in the room.
