I just made a REALLY dumb mistake----don't do it!!
A few days ago I bought what I thought was a full version of Deus Ex. I put about 10 hrs into this damn thing, only to find out that it's only a Preview Edition, and that to finish the game and get to Hong Kong, I have to buy the full version!!
Anyone else screw up like this?

That sucks. I've never even heard of such a thing. The good news is that you should be able to find the whole game for pretty cheap ($20 or less) and it's definitely a game that's worth the money (if you only play through this game once you're missing out).

I got it at Babbages. They had just a case of it that said at the top "Special Limited Edition", and they were selling it for $5.00. I'd heard alot about how good this game was, so I figured it was definitely worth it------------------now I'm totally interested in that game, and I'll have to start over again.

I fell for it too. The jewel case says "limited edtion" and not demo. Playing the game pissed me off constantly, then I find out it is only the demo version, and that made it worse.

Well... the edition you picked up is "limited."
That does suck, though... but like others have said, you can probably find the full version for very cheap.
Have you tried taking it back to Babbages and saying that you misunderstood their advertising? If you showed them that you were willing to buy the full version there, maybe they'd let you make an exchange? Worth a shot.

that's so funny... I mean, I feel bad for you, but it's so funny that they so blatantly false advertise. Limited Edition is commonly used these days to indicate something is of limited quantity and therefore worth more or somehow more elite, but what they did here was limit how much of the game you can play and call it "limited edition" - priceless...

I saw those packages in my stores. If you bother reading carefully, you would have know it was a demo. Other clues were the $5 price tag and location in the store.

I see these cdroms frequently at places like Office max... where they have "special editions" of various Lara Croft games and other crap. This technique is pretty misleading so you have to read the extra, extra fine print that says "does not contain full game." I think that its really inconsiderate for retailers to sell a 10 dollar software cd (which is a game that is about 3 years old) which doesn't even contain the full game. oh well... let the buyer beware.

, so now I'm stuck it.
