New XBox or PS2 for $165 on Ebay -- good deal or ripoff?
Guy on ebay claims to be a wholesaler of new XBOX and PS2 units and is selling them for $165 each, including shipping.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1358705581
I'm interested in getting an XBOX now that the price has dropped and was wondering if buying from ebay to save a few extra bucks is worth it.
According to the bid history, some people have already retracted their bids fearing a ripoff, so I'm wary of this guy already, but I want to hear from others who have made successful purchases of an XBOX unit from ebay.

I think you would be better off buying a used PS2 or Xbox from a reputable store. You would end up around the same price and could get a warranty if you wanted. Something about that auction just doesn't seem right (beside the fact that he doesn't have very good feedback...)

Yeah, some of these systems have had problems. I think it would be better to buy from a place where you could easily exchange it in case you get a defective one.
That's assuming there was no problem actually getting the unit.

As a POWER SELLER on EBay I fully recommend you NOT bid with that guy. Anytime a person has less than 98% positives you would be better off staying away. Anyway, it is IMPOSSIBLE for this guy to cover these order as the new XBOX wholesale price is, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, roughly $185. He is selling them for well below what Wal-mart buys them for, and no legitimate wholesaler in the country sells them for that price. Just my (educated??) two cents.

If it was me, i'd just get it somewhere local...that way you can have it the same day and have probably 30 days guaranteed to work.
In fact when I got my XBOX i didnt ever consider looking at Ebay...I went to Wal-Mart...the Xtra money I spent was ok w/me because its a reputable place.
plus i used my 10% off discount card

Don't buy. His previous auctions are for car parts. Just someone out to make a quick buck. (11 current bidders * $165 = 1815). Unless you wait and see if some of these actually get theirs and then leave feedback saying so... but still, go somewhere local.

he is selling them below cost on both the PS2 and XBox so no do not buy it.
No wholesaler gets them for this price so he is lying if he says he can.

Ok, thanks guys for all the advice and comments about avoiding this ebay "deal".
On to my next question(s) then.....
Would anyone recommend buying a used unit from one of the Amazon marketplace sellers? There are used Xboxes being sold there for as low as $149.99.
According to Amazon, they cover up to $2,500 of a purchase under their a-to-z guarantee.
Can you use Amazon gift certificates and coupons towards a Amazon marketplace purchase?

Dood just get a system from your local best buy ot such in case something goes wrong (skipping, etc..) you can bring it back instead of emailing the seller and shipping it back and forth thats it.!

This is fake. He's selling it way below cost. Unless he 'found' them on the back of a best buy truck, ic a big scam.
I know your trying to get a good deal and all getting it used, but i think you should hit retailers first.
or funcoland or eb a place like that sells used systems and you have 14 days or so to return it if doesnt work. saves on hassle and shipping

Forget this Ebay loser...read on
I got my Xbox for $184.99 total (incl. shipping) from Buy.com. Just use the $15 off $150 coupon together with their free standard shipping and PRESTO -- cheap Xbox.
Buying at a retail store would be $210 - $225, depending on your sales tax, so this is definitely a damn good deal.
You gotta be a new customer at Buy.com though; I think all they check is the e-mail addy and CC#, so if you have one of each that you have not yet used to buy something from them, well, you know what to do.
$185 = sure thing
$165 = probably a rip off
The $20 bucks is not worth it.

Go figure....the seller ended the item early for some unknown reason!!!
Probably had to turn himself in locally for some type of fraud where he resides.
