Unbelievable!!! 8-man Halo!!!!!
The last two Sundays I've been involved in all-day 8-man Halo gaming. I've never had so much video gaming fun in my entire life. We're playing on 2 TV's. We play 4 on 4 teams of Slayer and Capture The Flag, we also play 8-man free-for all, which gets really insane on the small indoor levels. We haven't played any other game types yet...have any of you guys played the other types, such as King Of The Hill, Skull, etc...? Which 'games of Halo' do you think are the most fun with alot of players?
This is a Sunday tradition until football season starts. If you haven't played with a system link yet, spend the $15 bucks on the cable...you can't imagine what you're missing!!!

Here is a site that will allow you to find more Halo players in your area:
http://www.bungie.net/perlbin/blam.pl?file=/site/2
I'm in a local group of 11 players. It really gets wild when you can get 8 to 16 players in the game. CTF with vechicles is my fav, especially in the big open areas.

I'd have o say I'm looking more forward to the PS2 online than Xbox live. I think Sony has a lot more developers on board for their online plans.

dvdsteve...I know the feeling! I have been enjoying 8 man Halo parties since January when a buddy got one. Now due to the price break, another friend is getting one & we will soon have us a 12 man Halo link!!!
There is nothing more fun than sneaking up behind someone, blowing their head off & then hearing the loud scream of your buddy behind you..."Who f**king did that?!?!?!?!"

Using an Ethernet crossover cable you connect 2 Xboxes thru their Ethernet ports.
With 3 or more Xboxes you will need Ethernet straight thru cables and a hub.
I’m in the same boat as some of you guys. I can’t wait for Xbox Live because my friends live to far away.
I know I'll be there on day one to get my username.

Really? Who does Sony have that Xbox doesn't have? (other than apparently EA -- at least for the moment)

EA is a big one. There's also Tribes for the PS2. I was talking to some third party developers at E3 doing media interviews and most of them have plans for the PS2 and no immediate plans for the Xbox. From what they said, Sony worked with them on the online plan and gave them lots of room to develop what's best for them. Microsoft shoved their plan down their throats and told them how they were going to do it. A lot of developers don't seem very happy with that. Don't get me wrong, I'm an Xbox diehard, almost to the point of being a fanboy. I was just a little more impressed with Sony's plan and the way they handled the developers.

I think it's great that console gamers are finally getting exposed to the thrill of mass mayhem networked gaming. I have been zapping live opponents on my PCs since the days of dial-up head-to-head Doom, and I just can't get enough. I am currently to be found blowing stuff up on a Tribes2 server somewhere, or maybe the odd game of UT. Up next? Jedi Knight II: Outcast... I have never really gotten the whole controller thing down, you know? I am a died in the wool mouse & keyboard guy. If you saw me playing Goldeneye on the N64, you would die laughing! Anyhow, good for you!

reps from EA and Acclaim were the two that I remember at the top of my head. I'd have to search through my notes on the others.

The best game to play I've found with 8 people is the following:
Capture The Flag - 4 on 4
Blood Gulch or Sidewinder (the snow level)
Set captures to 1 capture to win
And give each player 5 lives
This way it's all about strategy, do they go for the one capture, or to kill all the other players? This is the best HALO game we've created. Try it

Blood Gulch or Sidewinder (the snow level)--Blood Gulch, definitely!! Try the small indoor boards also.
Set captures to 1 capture to win--We were playing 3, but moved it up to 5. Maybe with 5 lives each this WOULD kick ass!!
And give each player 5 lives--I can't wait to try this lil' number!! We have people dying 20+ times, that's why we've been playing 5 captures to win.
