Any Cat Stevens fans here?
I know his stuff is old, and probably too "soft" for most of the young'uns here, but for those who do like his music, post your favorites.
Mine are:
1) TUESDAY'S DEAD
2) OH VERY YOUNG
3) MORNING HAS BROKEN
4) THE WIND
5) SILENT SUNLIGHT
6) WHERE DO THE CHILDREN PLAY?
7) ANOTHER SATURDAY NIGHT

I think "Sitting" is probably my all time favorite Cat song though.
Interesting that i'm a guitarist who can't play piano and Cat Stevens(i know he plays guitar a lot) and Ben Folds are possibly my 2 favorite singers.

I like almost every cut off Teaser & The Firecat and Tea For The Tillerman lps. But I recently gave the remastered Catch Bull at Four a listen and I find it lacking. oh well...

Review of "Catch Bull at Four"
I believe the best song on the album is "The Boy With the Moon & Star on His Head"; it's simply gorgeous, with the guitar theme repeating continuously for 6 mins, and the occasional intrusion of a breathtaking "wall of sound" effect. It's among Stevens's very, very best.
"Silent Sunlight" (which I listed above, having heard it before on the Footsteps in the Dark collection) and "Angelsea" are also classics, and "Sitting" (which a couple of people here have labelled a favourite) and "I Can't Keep It In" pulling up the rear of good tracks.

Is he still Muslim? I'll admit I haven't followed his work since his brief era of Top-40 popularity... I always enjoyed his original songs... But I still hate him for the era when he was going around all the British media, calling for the death of Salmund Rushdie...

'Serious' or because of what you stated in the other thread? Make up your mind dude......

I have always enjoyed his stuff. Like another poster said - the entire soundtrack to Harold and Maude is incredible. I also followed him as Yusuf Islam and regularly listen to the two disc set of A Is For Allah. Much of it is spoken word on Islamic teachings but I still enjoy the whole thing.

It's funny that one like myself can listen to Iron Maiden then the next minute just HAVE to listen to the lyrics of Cat Stevens.
There is something not only about the lyrics but the way he sings them. The emotion is really strong in many of his songs. The breakdowns in many of his songs are not big and loud but just enough that makes them perfect.
I would love to see him live.

I'm 28 now, and I've been a fan of Cat Stevens since around age 16. His music has always provided me a great range in emotions, and I'm still listening to his latest album "An Other Cup" quite often.

There is just something about his music isn't there.I mean you could say it is somewhat mellow yet it can get you pumped up emotionally.I can get pumped listening to some good metal/hard rock, but this is a different kind of 'pumped up'.Theres just something about it.
It's really too bad there aren't more 'Cat Stevens' in the world of music.

Yes, I agree there's something unusually intimate and emotional about his music, his voice. I haven't listened to him in a couple of years though. I'll have to get back into it again.
Talk about a resurrection. This topic's over five years old. I have to seriously revise my list of fave songs, not because I changed my mind, but because I bought several more albums after starting this thread in '02.
Now my faves go something like this (in roughly preferential order):
1. "Tuesday's Dead" (Teaser and the Firecat (1971))
2. "Boy with the Moon & Star on His Head" (Catch Bull at Four (1972))
3. "Oh, Very Young" (Buddha and the Chocolate Box (1974))
4. "Morning Has Broken" (Teaser....)
5. "The Wind" (Teaser....)
6. "The Blackness of the Night" (New Masters (1968))
7. "Portobello Road" (Matthew and Son (1967))
8. "Silent Sunlight" (Catch....)
9. "Child for a Day" (Izitso (1977))
10. "Angelsea" (Catch....)
11. "Father and Son" (Tea for the Tillerman (1970))
12. "Here Comes My Baby" (Matthew....)
13. "The Hurt" (Foreigner (1973))
14. "Randy" (Back to Earth (1978))
15. "Daytime" (Back....)
16. "Where Do the Children Play?" (Tea....)
17. "Moonshadow" (Teaser....)
18. "Miles from Nowhere" (Tea....)
...etc.
I would rank his albums so (haven't heard the new one):
1. "Teaser and the Firecat" (1971)(by far his best) ***** out of 5
2. "Back to Earth" (1978) ****
3. "Tea for the Tillerman" (1970) ****
4. "Catch Bull at Four" (1972) ***1/2
5. "Izitso" (1977) ***1/2
6. "New Masters" (1968) ***
7. "Mona Bone Jakon" (1970) **1/2
8. "Buddha and the Chocolate Box" (1974) **1/2
9. "Numbers" (1975) **1/2
10. "Matthew and Son" (1967) **1/2
11. "Foreigner" (1973) *

Yeah, I had completely forgotten about it, and I looked askance at my original list of his best songs.

(nice choices OP!)
