Best Tool Album?

The recent "controversy" over the best radiohead album has gotten me confused - I always assumed that the bends is their best then downhill after that was what everyone thought - common sense. So I'm wondering about peoples opinions of Tool

my list is:

Ænima
Lateralus
Undertow
Salival
Opiate

Though really Salival and Opiate are about equal for me.

Right now for me its a tie between Aenima & Lateralus....with Third Eye being my favorite song from Tool.

Third Eye is one of my favorites, too - I like the Ænima version much better than the Salival version though. I like the cutting in and out effect - if you know what I'm talking about it.

Though my favorite song is probably a tie between "Hooker with a Penis" and "Parabol/parabola"

They did a hell of a job performing that song live, but yeah I like the album version better. That song has ALOT of weird things going on in the background if you listen close enough.

I voted for Lateralus, but only because its the first Tool album that I was able to anticipate getting. Aenima is a VERY close 2nd for me.

This band is quite incredible, great music and great lyrics with some pretty deep stuff....

My vote goes to Lateralus. The album just has an amazing flow. IMO, there really isn't a need for individual tracks on Lateralus. It's one of those rare albums that seems more like one single piece of work rather than a collection of songs.

I agree to a degree - it seems like about 3 or 4 songs to me, though it is cut into I don't know how many.

Looking at the pole, it seems that my opinion is right in this case.

Disposition, Reflection & Triad are basically one song broken up in three pieces thus the last song being called triad.

Parabol/Parabola is really one song.

I count 7 songs being tied together beautifully as 1 piece of work.

Why are you looking at my pole?

Actually, I have no doubt that Ænima will win this poll. It's an amazing album itself. While I can totally appreciate all of the segues on Ænima, they tend to distract from the flow of the album more than contribute to it. This is why I chose Lateralus. To me it's all about the flow.

You're absolutely right. My point is that those 7 songs are tied together so beautifully that each one seems the perfect extension of the last.

The problem I have with "the Flow" is that my mind wanders off in the middle - If I start at the beginning, the last song I usually actually listen to is Ticks and Leeches. After that, I've zoned out. So usually every other time I put the cd in - about every other day - I start it on ticks and Leeches to make up for my wandering mind.

BTW, I think your pole is kinda cute

I definetly get what your saying. Undertow & Aenima's tracks all have a different feel to them individually, whereas Lateralus, like you said, just blends together perfectly.

I can fully grasp what you're saying. It's hard to digest the entire album in one sitting. BTW, have you noticed that the end of Faaip de Oiad flows right into the beginning of The Grudge? Very, very nice.

Oh, and uhhh, shucks...I think my pole's kinda cute, too. Thanks for noticing.

Ding, ding, ding!!! We have a winner!!!

I hope nobody gets me wrong, though. I absolutely love everything Tool has given us. It's just that with each new release, they've gotten that much better, IMO.

If anyone is interested - and have winmx or morpheus - I've got an album that Maynard did before he was in Tool. The band was called Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty - the album was "Fingernails." It kinda sucks, but if you're a diehard MJK fan, then you may be interested. If anybody want it let me know so I can share it.

I totally forgot about that C.A.D. album. I used to be on dial up, so basically gave up trying to download it off http://lachrymology.com/ (R.I.P.)

I would definetly be interested

I think I downloaded that from the now defunct lachrymology.com website a while back. Quality totally sucked and made it hard to decifer if the music was any good.

The quality is pretty low - but it is just maynard an another guy recording the album in maynards livingroom - so, ya know...

I'm sharing it on winmx now. Let me know if you can't find it - a search for fingernails should find it - it is the whole album in a zip file
