This guy is one of the best actors in Hollywood today and deserves his own thread. From a cop in Traffic to a swashbuckling porate in The Count Of Monte Cristo, to a game show contestant in Magnolia, to Prisoner #98H498 in OZ, this guy can do it all. Unfortunately, I don't think he'll be given a leading man role anytime soon, even though he deserves one.

Think about it. Every time you go and see a movie and talk about it afterwards and remark on the actor that played that small, yet pivotal role, chances are very high that you're talking about Luis Guzmán.

Guzman is a great actor. I also loved him in Carlito's Way and Boogie Nights.

I agree, he's a terrific supporting actor - kind of like Philip Seymour Hoffman.

As i notice with all these recent appreciation threads, i love all these actors... so maybe i should just state this:

ANYONE WHO HAS WORKED WITH PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON, THE COEN BROTHERS, STEVEN SODERBERGH OR DAVID MAMET absolutely rule, and are THE BEST ACTORS around.

Luis knows good material when he sees it. He was great in Traffic and The Limey as well as hilarious in Boogie Nights.

If he's in the movie, I'll probably want to check it out.

He's also in Welcome to Collinwood (another Soderbergh movie) set to come out in September. It got great reviews at Cannes.

Luis Guzman is the MAN. Although I didn't like him in OZ his roles in the Limey and Magnolia certify him as a great character actor. It is unfortunate hollywood doesn't respect character actors as much as they used to in the old days. Now most movies the star must be in every scene. Just check out movies like Beat the Devil where the character actors have pages of dialogue.

He was also great in Out of Sight as that guy who goes to kill Adell and wants to know about the magic tricks and then gets beat up by JLo.

Years ago I worked on a picture where LG had a small role. I can say that he was one of the coolest, nicest guys I've ever met.

Not a single Hollywood bone in his whole body. He would refuse rides to and from his trailer, saying he hasn't too good to walk. He would refuse to go ahead of the crew in the lunch line, saying those guys work much harder than actors ever will.

He was/is truly one of the great people in Hollywood.

Man, I thought I was the only LG fan around.

He was fantastic in Out of Sight and one of the first episodes of Homicide: Life on the Street.

It cracked me up when they listed LG "as himself" in the closing credits of "Magnolia."

Ever since watching Boogie Nights commentary, my wife and I can't help wondering if he's stoned every time we see him in anything.

This is the best place for me to ask this question.

While in New York a couple years ago, I saw the filming of "Mr. Deeds." It was the scene where the "news" host is doing a segment while walking through the streets of New York.

Eventually, between takes, we saw Winona Ryder sitting off to the side of the "set." Later, we saw Sandler talking to her. Turns out, they shot some of this for a cut to Ryder talking on her cell phone (well, Sandler obviously wasn't in any of the shots).

OK, well I SWEAR I saw Luis Guzman standing near Ryder while they were shooting. It appeared to me that he was dressed as a waiter, although I don't remember the scene having an outdoor restaurant or anything that would require a waiter. Guzman wasn't credited in the movie, but I'm wondering if he was left on the cutting room floor? Or maybe I was just hallucinating.
