...ahh... an English-language, made-in-Germany-by-a-German-director, based-on-a-novel-by-a-French-author, movie - starring an American actor... how could one not wish to see it!...

I rented this one a couple of months ago. It was meant to be a (belated) companion piece to The Tin Drum with some similar themes (a social outsider in time of war, dream/fantasy episodes). Very well done if not on the scale of The Tin Drum, one of my all-time favorite foreign films on dvd (in the top 50 anyway). Worth a look,but I wasn't inclined to buy it. And, Malkovich is Malkovich.
