For all of you out there who want book advice, want to discuss books, books about movies, movies that become books. books that expand on movies, etc lets show our support and support here. Try to put links in other book threads to this petition. The founder said that we would get a book forum if it has enough support.

I'll sign for this with a disclaimer:
it might upset some of the people who want a serious forum...since books are just pulling one aspect of serious discussion out of the other forum. Thus leaving even less serious topics in the other forum making it harder to find serious discussions. I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong or what way to handle this. Just that it could be a result if this happens.

I don't think we need any more forums. This is "DVD"talk, after all, and the currently available newer ones barely fit this title at all. There must be better online places to put a book forum.

Do we need a book forum?
I don't think we do. Books are too un-related to DVDs IMHO to get their own forum here. I'm sure there are other book forums on the Internet, why don't you find one of those to use?
Before someone jumps on me saying that TV and video games aren't related to DVDs, they all fall into the realm of "home entertainment" and, technically, "home theater." Books do not. Plus, when he switched to the new software, Geoff posted a poll in the Other forum asking what new forums people wanted on the site, and those were the 2 biggest vote-getters, which meant there was enough user interest to justify them.
Personally, being a member of the site for the past year, I don't think there would be enough interest among members of DVDTalk to start a book forum, but I may be wrong. I just don't see it being something of high demand here.
But, obviously this is Geoff's site, and if he thinks there is enough interest, then I say go for it, Geoff.

2)the topic of this thread is "who thinks we Need a book forum" not "who thinks we don't need one". Your just talking with no one listening nay sayers.

I also think that DVDTalk is really not the place for a Book forum. Yes, I do read as do many others on hear (OK...maybe I am assuming here
) but as Scot pointed out, these forums are more about home entertainment, and even moreso, about visual entertainment. While I think the TV forum is a stretch, it is at least somewhat rlated to DVDs.

DanTwo, films are often based on books. Anyhow, Geoff K has already stated he'd do it if there was sufficient demand so the mild objections you raise I think have already been addressed.
TV Talk is not a high traffic group. Perhaps it could be Books & TV Talk.
Personally, I'm not sure whether books should be ghettoised but I can understand the annoyance when threads in the Other Forum are buried by what looks to some like trivia or padding.
Alternatively, label all book discussions in the Other Forum with a "BOOKS:" heading and then hassle the Moderators by email if people hijack the thread or use it for padding. (That is the advice I keep reading). If you found that the same names were spoiling your book threads then Geoff could make them [BANNED].

Geoff said he'd love to do one if he thought there was enough interest. He is often very active in book threads. I would love on because I can never seem to find any news on rumored book titles and their plots and no one in the book threads has a clue either. There are so many differences between books and movie adaptations(I think everyone knows about manhunter/red dragon) that I thought people would be eager for this premise.

Avid, if you want to discuss a book, you might want to post a thread in the Other Forum.
I know it's a little itimidating posting something of intelligence (for lack of a better word?) there, what with all the mature and poo threads, but the kind of posts you are talking about are just what it needs more of! If you notice, threads about books usually get a lot of replies there because, for the most part, that forum is full of really educated, thoughtful, people! Try it out!

Actually, thoughtful topics come up quite a bit but they get pushed away by some of the less meaty aforementioned topics.I am something of an expert on the Other forum and let me tell you, *if* you find people who are interested in a topic, it will flourish there.

Just because TV Talk isn't a high traffic area doesn't mean it should be lumped together with something pretty unrelated like book discussions. By that same logic, we should make it Books & Forum Feedback & Suggestions, or Books & Video Game Talk. I for one don't want a books forum (like others said, this is a site about home theater/entertainment), but in the remote chance it does happen, at least put books in its own forum.

Also, I agree with Bushdog, serious discussions can, and do, flourish in the Other. A lot of the people who you think are just "padders" will actually make some great comments and contribute to intelligent discussions. The key is that you need to have a topic of interest. That is sometimes difficult.
